[1] And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: [2] And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying, [3] Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Purport:O'Clery. This means be humble and not egotistic so one can receive the teaching and become Liberated. For if one is rich in spirit and has a proud ego, one cannot learn. [4] Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Purport:O'Clery. This has different meanings. Mourning can mean sensitivity but in this case the loss is the separation from `God', or The Self. It is the feeling of separation from God that encompasses all the emotions like fear and insecurity, grief and similar feelings.
