Guest guest
Dear Tony, thanks for this posting. Yes indeed, it is desire that has to be overcome. And it is no coincidence that the boon Arunachala grants is "desirelessness". I cannot say that I understand it all (the working of the universe) intellectually, with me it is more of an emotional grasp on the concept. The biggest desire in my life was living in India and wearing beautiful saris. After becoming a devotee of Bhagawan, it became living near Arunachala wearing beautiful saris. As my Atma Vichara became strong I realized that being without desire means abiding as that, abiding as truth. As Jnana comes and goes in my case because of some strong vasanas, I knew Arunachala was going to teach me a lesson. First, I started to put on weight, so wearing beautiful saris became less of a pleasure. Then economic circumstance forced us back to Berlin. So I learned that Arunachala is everywhere even in Germany. On another level you might say, that my bad karma doesn't let me live near Arunachala wearing beautiful saris. All actions are preceded by desire. That is how karma is generated, which again creates more desire and throws us deeper into illusion. That is why Bhagawan stressed the need for detachment which in time will lead to inspired action.
