Guest guest
Hello Everyone I've returned to the fold after a couple years' absence -- I'm getting posts via digest form and hope this post gets thru ok. It's nice to be back and see familiar names again. I know some of the recent dialogue has been pretty hi voltage, to which I doubt I'll be adding much, as this is surely not the reason for my reappearance. Antoine, it's funny seeing your quote from Lama Govinda's book, as I've been reading it again the last couple weeks. I think he was a brilliant, highly articulate man, and I always enjoy reading him. I'm sorry to say that the theme of renunciation based upon avoidance/escape has been an issue for me at times. I learned during an earlier time in my life that avoidance isn't a good thing for me. Self protection seems mostly to breed more self protection, along with a strengthened inner critic who is not sympathetic. I dealt with this once, only to have it reappear when k syndrome caused health issues which led to a restricted lifestyle. I'm dealing with it now, as the health issues persist. This is one reason I admired Christopher Reeve so much. He suffered the ultimately debilitating injury, yet continued to lead a very active, high profile life, both in theater and as an advocate for others in his situation. When confronted with his example, I realize I may not have any excuses. That perhaps we always have the choice to confront life rather than to try to escape it.
