There is an old story, which, as such stories do, explains a lot of things, including this. It is about the day the asshole became the boss of the body. The heart and the mind were having an argument over which was superior, and should be running the whole organism. The mind, of course, had many carefully reasoned arguments, and the heart was full of passion and conviction. Finally the asshole got tired of the endless discussion, and declared that it was going to resolve the question once and for all. The heart and mind were amazed and a bit contemptuous, and wanted to know what resolution the asshole had in mind. The asshole claimed that it was the boss, and that was an end to it. Naturally, the heart and mind argued and disagreed, and wanted to know how the asshole thought that it was so important as to be the boss. The asshole said it would demonstrate its power, and it quit working. To make the story short, after three days the heart and mind were begging the asshole to get back to work, and were willing to admit that it was the boss, and they wouldn't argue about it any further.
