Guest guest
Namaste,IMO, This word or concept is much broader than one would think initially, as so is Ahimsa or non violence. They both don't translate that well from the Sanskrit. It is one of the first concepts I learned in Sanathana Dharma and made a lasting impression. Sathya doesn't only mean not telling untruths but every other lie of living as well. Living of immoral earnings, ill gotten gains, exploiting the worker, manipulating the stock exchange, charging usurious interest rates, profiteering, offensive wars, occupation of other people's countries/ethnic cleansing, and of course all the violations of Ahimsa as well. So the word has to be penetrated for meaning, and what it means to oneself. Essentially it means one cannot live in denial and live a lie. It cannot be rationalised away or covered up in spiritual materialism or fine words, in order to gain materially. However it also has to be combined with Ahimsa if the facts are not the same as Truth. One doesn't have to tell a lie but one can be quiet if there is danger of harm to someone....I have found in my experience that all the fine concepts of Sanathana Dharma include all the others............ONS....S.
