Some of the classic texts of Hatha Yoga

are Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Gheranda Samhita, Siva Samhita. These

describe certain practices which would be considered highly unusual.

Patanjali's yoga sutras is important in Hatha Yoga as well. As John

pointed out Hatha Yoga and Raja yoga are connected. The higher

practices of Hatha Yoga involve mudras, pranayama with bhandas, and

various kriyas to stimulate the kundalini shakti.

Many of these practices are physically and mentally demanding and are

not suitable for everyone. An experienced teacher or a guide is

critical in advanced practices of Hatha Yoga. In the Jnana path, where

the goal is Self-Realization, there is no requirement or encouragement

to engage in any of these physical practices.

Hatha Yoga and Raja Yoga are closely related with Raja Yoga as an

extension of Hatha Yoga. The classic text is THE YOGA SUTRAS OF

PATANJALI. Most instructive is the little book by Vivekananda, RAJA

YOGA. Some interesting material can be found in his book KARMA YOGA.

These books can be found on the websites for the Vedanta Society and

Amazon, etc. This material is accessible but not to be approached

naively and maturity in both physical and spiritual pathwork is

strongly recommended for going into these areas.
