Dear Harsha:

You can tell us funny stories about Gurus and money and disciples any time you want!!!

I guess you just did didn't you? BTW, CAN you stop your breath like Ramakrishna?

If so, for how long? Oh, and can you wrap your legs around your neck while you are

stopping your breath? Do tell!!!

Love,

Joyce

Gurus and money

If a guru charges money and you don't want to pay, how can someone

force you?On the other hand, if someone wishes to pay for a seminar

or a class or whatever, what should we do?How can we restrain people?

Ultimately, it is not our problem. Ultimately, it is not a problem at

all.I used to teach yoga to make a living in the late 1970s in NYC

and could barely make ends meet.Fortunately, I had a place to live

with modest rent and enough to eat so I could meditate most of the

time I was not teaching.I could tell you some really funny stories

about money and gurus and disciples, etc. There were times when people

took my yoga classes and did not pay me and I was too shy to ask when

I saw them.Because I felt asking for money was not spiritual. After

all Sri Ramana never asked anyone for money. One time, this middle

aged gentleman came and before the class started asked me to

demonstrate Nirvikalpa Samadhi. He wanted to see if my breath fully

stopped in Samadhi like Ramakrishna's or Yogananda's or something

like that. When I refused a public performance, he walked out of the

class making a scene. He had paid in full 25 dollars for 5 week

sessions (I charged very little)..He never came back. I felt bad that

he had paid in full in advance and often looked for him to pay it

back. I never saw him again. I hope he found a good teacher that

stopped the breath at his request, etc. That's how these things go

sometimes. :-). Love to allHarsha
