Guest guest
Dear Joyce, I happened upon your incredible story of healing in one of the editions of the online magazine. How marvelous that it had witnesses, and definitive before and afters. The healing power of light... What it brought forth for me is the healing power of relaxation. The relaxation of the body, yes, but perhaps moreso the relaxation of a mind that relies so heavily on solidification of thought and perception to maintain its seat. A few years ago, I was in a car accident and experienced whiplash. Initially, I left the scene of the accident and went on to work, teaching the first day of a humanities class at the local U and then on to the office. By 5pm, I could tell something very wrong had happened, and so called my doctor. Exams showed that my C5 vertebra had slipped sideways out of the column and rotated 45 degrees. So, I commenced with all sorts of therapy - chiropractic, myofascial release, craniosacral, and so on. There were many months of unusual experiences and much confusion from that. Finally, it seemd that much progress had been made, but there was still this one place, at the C5, that resisted change. As a last effort, my doctor offered to try a subset of craniosacral work called Somato Emotional Release. I arranged for the appointment and he lent me a book on the technique to read in the interim. I read the book quickly, and then set it aside. One day not long after finishing the book, I was at work, taking a mental break and drinking some tea. Daydreaming about nothing in particular, my thoughts ran their course and landed on contemplations of the book I had just finished and some of the amazing experiences outlined in that book. I had been rocking my head to the side to stretch the side of my neck as I had been advised by my chiropractor. There was, for a moment, a stilling of my mind as the warmth of the tea (and possibly the herbs in it - 'tension tamer' was the name of it, I recall) took hold. A nice feeling of relaxation of body and mind and then, the warmth of the tea seemed to build in the area of the lump at my C5. It grew in sensation, quite hot, and as you described, flushed. There was a rushing sensation of fat rubbery bands unknotting, and then a great rush of ice cold through that area. Then, the dams burst and I found myself weeping at my desk! So, what I am trying to say is that I recognized your heart healing experience. Thanks for writing about that... Nina
