Thank you Jill. If you

insist, I could always pretend to be holier than thou. That is a lot of

pressure though…to always be holy, and especially holier than thou Jill,

because you seem like an awfully holy person yourself. Holiness in spiritual circles

can be competitive sport. God, what I have to do to keep the Chelas happy! :--)).

Yes, the great realization

about holiness came to me in 1980. It happened in a moment where I was the

seeing and being and this moment was the alive connection between being me and

Being Me, the mind and the Heart, and I saw that these two were One, and the same.

And so, I thought what is the point of pursuing anything. Our ordinary state is as sacred as

anything and really everything is ordinary and I find relaxation and joy in

being ordinary. I even wrote an

article that the ordinary mind is the Buddha mind which is on the HS website.

This reminds me of a

student of my teacher who at one time got angry with him. When she came and

talked to me about it, she told me that she had given our teacher a piece of

her mind and gotten a lot of things off her chest.

Referring to our teacher, she

said, “I told him that he was really smug.”

I was curious. “What

did he say”, I asked.

She replied, “He

agreed with me and said that he really was smug.”

Harsha, your Supreme

holier-ness is a joy to us all to this day. Don't ever change. Stay holier than

me. It brings much happiness. :)

So

one day, I asked my roommates to pose me the great question. I said, please ask

me, “If I am holier than you.” The scratched their head but humored

me and asked me each in turn smiling, “Harsha, do you consider yourself

holier than me?” To which I replied looking at them, “Yes, I am

holier than thou.” It seemed very funny to us at the time and we laughed

and I was happy to finally get that sentence in a conversation.

Good

times those were! bigger>bigger>color>fontfamily>J

I could say such things to my friends. “Yes, I am holier than thou

and now must return to my meditation to meditate upon my own holiness. Glory,

glory be unto me. You are blessed to be in my holy presence. So now rejoice and

smile!” fontfamily>J.

Dear Harsha,

A appreciate your post.

One thing that I have come to love about Ramana is that he never held

himself as better or holier than anyone. As I recall, he said that he

did not accept disciples since he did not see any that were not

already realized.

Now you can see your earlier attitudes and laugh at yourself.

What wonderful examples for us all.

Not two,

Richard
