Guest guest
Dear Pinkie, Arthur Osborne is very good. I also can recommend "Be as you are" by David Godman and later reading the "Talks with Ramana Maharshi". If you want to know more about Sri Ramana's life you may read Suri Nagammas "Letters" and Devaraja Mudaliar's "Day by Day with Bhagavan". Also very good is David Godman: "Living by the words of Bhagavan" and by the same author: "Power of the Presence, part one and two". If you have any questions where to order this books, you can ask us here. What kind of approach you need and what will help you to follow the path of Self Enquiry, you must find out by yourself. There is not only one way which suits all. Some seekers integrate the methods of different Great masters, some are concentrated only on one. If you find your Master - better: if the Master finds you, you can simply surrender to him and his teaching and follow the path shown by him. The more you understand his teaching the more you will also understand the teachings of other great Masters. Try what is easier for you: just watching thoughts or cut them as soon as they arise. It doesn't matter how the mind is quietend: through awareness or concentration or ... Whatever helps to quieten and lead it back to its source you may use. If you are a devotee of Sri Ramana, you perhaps will find being aware of his powerful presence will also quieten the mind. Wish you all the best to find your personal approach to Self Enquiry. If any questions please ask. Guest guest
"I want to know that after being experienced in meditation and in the path of self-enquiry, how long should one meditate every day? I'm trying to figure this out because I want to meditate more, and so I have, but my schedule is busy and there is not often as much time as I would like there to be for this." ----- Hi Leaf: I 'm sure that lots of folks here will disagree with this. For me, in order to develop the necessary mindfulness and one pointed concentration, so that the obstacles to tranformation may happen, I need 12 to 14 hours a day sittting meditation for 10 years. That has been my desire for the last 25 years, but first I have to complete my family cycles. That is how I learned to play the piano and that is how I will attain a quiet mind. UG says and I agree that the mind has gotten too stong over time. It's a question of the balance of discursive neurons versus mindfulness neurons and we are loosing the battle. This present generation wont have any chance of attaining a silent mind with all the media bombarding them. I believe though, that a cyber Buddha will appear with the technology to conquer the "talking to itself mind". A computerized reading of every thought as it arises will appear on a screen that the practicioner watches, so that the mind will choke. Now here goes those attacks coming. I can feel it. Aloha, Alton Om Namo Bhagavate Sri Ramanaya Merry Meet, I have a question. First of all, i have not posted to this list much at all, if even I have ever posted, but I need help with something and I feel that this group is the correct one to ask. Here is my question: I want to know that after being experienced in meditation and in the path of self-enquiry, how long should one meditate every day? I'm trying to figure this out because I want to meditate mroe, and so I have, but my schedule is busy and there is not often as much time as I would like there to be for this. Namo Ramana bless'd be Leaf The universe is golden, the universe is magickal. Feel the touch of the Horn'd One warm you, See the light of the Goddess guide you on your path. Let the universe shine upon you, Let the universe flow through you. Know it to be the God and Goddess joined together, know them as all that exists. See them shine through everyone you meet during your day, So may you always be bless'd. Guest guest
Dear Leaf, How long you should meditate every day you must find out for yourself. I don't think it is very useful to force oneself to a certain amount of hours for meditation. At the same time discipline is helpful and to have fixed times for meditation. In my case it is mostly not more than half an hour or 1 hour a day. During the other hours I also try to stay in contact with Ramana and self-enquiry. The meditation-hour helps to do this. The inner Guru will help you to find out what suits you. If you give you to him, if you give you to self-enquiry the way shows itself to you. You need not ask: "how long" etc. It becomes apparent by itself. And one day - by the grace of the Guru - the time will come when self-enquiry takes over fully - if you are bussy or not, whatever you are doing. I wish this for you and for all of us. I just read more and more about Advaita, Buddhism, Sufism, etc. This surprisingly takes me more and more into the silence [no-mind?] that Ramana has mentioned many times. [i call this jokingly 'reading meditation'.] However I have just bought a book by Jack Kornfield, called "Living Dharma - Teachings of Twelve Buddhist Masters" This book has many ways to meditate with proper explanations as to why which technic will work for you. There are even methods which are more suitable for Advaitans. I would advise you to buy this book. I also highly recommend Jack Kornfields "The Eightfold Path for the Householder: Ten talks by Jack Kornfield, transcribed from audio tape.] Because it has been transcribed from talks this book is very easy to read. Guest guest
dear friends, this may be ridiculous and insignificant, but i would like to clarify something. this symbol or :-) signifies a smile. ok. but what about this or ;-) ? in my intent and understanding, it symbolizes a smiling wink; but seems that very often this is meant as just a smile... so, the question: does = ? thank you yosy )
Guest guest
It will not harm him, he can trust in that. Tell him to relax, he'll find out soon enough. Projecting about the future is just the mind's way to avoid resting in what's always present. Ironically, that which will be on the day he dies is no different than what is now.
