Pitfall in the Self

=====================================

The most exalted tapas, according to [Ramana] Maharshi, is

the destruction of ahankara - the ego, the I-notion - leading to

the knowledge of the Self. Ahankara is an imposter--posing as

the self- and so, upon enquiry, resolves into the Self which is

its true basis.

=====================================

In my view, the idea of a capital S Self is a tricky business because

it can become a storehouse of ego projection and attachment. Ego

loves to appropriate the idea of a superself and move in. Any notion

of an absolute self or absolute ground of being easily turns into

attachment and an object of craving and illusion, and a person ends

up in a dilemma in the very effort to get out of one. So what I'm

saying is that it's probably best not to preconceive an enlightened

state or State (!) and give it substance, but to work away

dilligently at the causes of spiritual ignorance - till the

enlightened view dawns of itself. Otherwise it's concepts and words

only - and plenty of suffering.

Any comments appreciated

Yes I hear your words and it's true what you are speaking of but re-

read your words carefully you mention states well states are states

they all come and go. For one that is awaken this dear one is not a

state and is certainly not some that needs or can be worked with.

It is what it is and always has been, it is the Awareness and is not

a state of awareness. Yes all words are concepts, however in the

silence that you truly are you will not find concepts or words..

Blessings in the now always

:) words and concepts can be used as a thorn is used to remove a

thorn, after which both are discarded. what is (awareness) remains as

it always is...
