Guest guest
I am curious. Who is Sunyata that Sri Ramana gave a name to? I am not aware of Sri Ramana giving anyone any name at all. It would have contrary to Bhagavan’s view that the nameless reality cannot be named. Ramana Maharshi was not a traditional guru (who gave mantras and names and so forth). Many traditional gurus and Shankracharyas sat at his feet, however. I have not read all of Paul Brunton’s works. Even in Sri Ramana’s lifetime people claimed many things about Sri Ramana having done this or that. Sri Ramana was often just as surprised to hear such things but never denied these pointing out to devotees that these were people’s own internal experiences manifesting and as real as anything else. Bhagavan’s teaching is simple, clear, and direct. It does not rely on external formalities at all and gives no room to feed the ego. Thanks for being here. Love to all. There are so many interpreting Ramana, writing books saying he meant this and that etc. I even have some differences of opinon on what Godman says Ramana meant etc. It is probably better to try and stick the verbatim quotes and not purports..............ONS..Tony. Guest guest
Thank you Harsha, His birth name was Alfred Sorensen, follows is how he came by the name Sunyata: Yet easily the most significant spiritual encounter in Sunyata's eyes was the one with Ramana Maharshi. Sunyata first visited him at his ashram in Arunachala in 1935 or 1936 (both dates are given) and met Paul Brunton there. Afterwards, Brunton wrote to him to say that Ramana had said that Shunyata was 'a rare born mystic'. Sunyata was fond of telling this story, and also the one about his silent communion with Ramana. This happened a year after the first visit when Sunyata was sitting, along with other visitors, in front of Ramana. He had not asked a question nor made his presence known in any particular way. "We awared (sic) a special effulgence specially radiated and directed towards our form . . .5 English words came suddenly upon us out of Silence. These were totally unsolicited but we took them as recognition, initiation, name and mantra: WE ARE ALWAYS AWARE, SUNYATA." This then became the orgin of his new name Sunyata Happy your here too Blessings always in the now Randy , "Harsha" wrote: > > I am curious. Who is Sunyata that Sri Ramana gave a > name to? Guest guest
Hi Yosy, Not sure also if he was a fully realized being but I like the fellow much, his story is very inspiring to me also he loved Ramana deeply.. he writes Maharshi Ramana lived and died in public with no privacy in forty years of ministry among egos. There was no assertive egoji in him to obtrude or intrude or usurp. The ego in him had duly died in the 17 year young body, and vanished in the young years of mouna(silence) in the cave of Siva's heart Arunachala. All the same, Ramanaji did function in the bodies-free of them as in egojies. He died from them in public, and during the last few years he endured the parasitic vampire called sarcoma, malignant bouncing cancer, but he never whimper or falter or falsey identify the surpreme self awareness with his bodies and their due pain. So all I can say is that I am fond of this fellow Sunyata..
