Sri Ramana and Food

It is well know

that although Sri Ramana himself was a vegetarian and gave advice to

some people including westerners on food and diet, he pointedly refused

invitations to criticize others who ate fish or meat etc. There are a

number of examples of that. Once during a discussion of vegetarian

food, it was mentioned to Sri Ramana that Hindus in certain parts of

India ate fish as a normal part of their diet. The Sage became

completely silent indicating clearly his refusal to judge others.

Food is a personal matter and reflects upbringing, conditioning,

circumstances, habit, etc. Who can really say what is right for

everyone? I myself used to eat hamburgers until I was 18 or so. I could

not even dream of doing it now. I also ate many fish sandwiches at

McDonalds, etc. when I was young. I could mention the "Age of Pizzas"

as well. Now, I am more or less a vegan. I say more or less because

infrequently I take dairy and egg products during social occasions.

As Yosyji has pointed out in a different context, when we point a

finger at someone, the other three fingers of our hand point at us.

And as Sri Tonyji has said, the pointing never happened. God help us!

:-).

Nice to hear from you Michael, Randy, Mango Tree, Jan, Era, Sam, Joyce,

Zenbob, TG, and others. Zenbob, your url does not work.

Hope you are all well.

Love to all
