You can look at Patanjali sutras for a start. Samadhis result from the rising of Shakti and lead to various visionary and celestial experiences. Symptoms such as stopping of the breath, slowing of respiration, etc. differ according to people and the state. The highest Samadhi is only the Self, Being. Pure Sat-Chit-Ananda. The different Samadhis can only be understood through practice and experience. Harsha

Guest guest
Nicely put, Harsha! Perhaps we can all have a club, and get together over drinks to compare notes on 'our' various experiences of the indescribable. Guest guest
Of all that anyone leading or teaching has to convey, the most valuable thing to cultivate and convey to others is a moral conscience. Only such persons deserve to lead others, in any capacity. Anything less is a menace to society. On 4/9/06, Jill Eggers < eggersj (AT) gvsu (DOT) edu> wrote:Nicely put, Harsha!Perhaps we can all have a club, and get together over drinks to compare notes on 'our' various experiences of the indescribable. On Apr 9, 2006, at 6:19 PM, Harsha wrote:> Dharma Mitra wrote:> >> > Hari bol Harsha,> >> > Experience is what I'm searching for, not theory. If so..wouldn't that be much the same thing as being a believer in Nothing that he said? Simpletons expect that the wise should honour them. If such is done, such is done for reasons the simpleton cannot understand. Alarmingly those who are simple expect others with the same lack of wisdom to honor them as well as the wise. This is of couse foolish. And even more foolish, but at least a little comical, is to witness fools seeking fools' honours and being...denied. :-) .....bob > On Apr 9, 2006, at 6:19 PM, Harsha wrote: > > > Dharma Mitra wrote: > > > > > > Hari bol Harsha, > > > > > > Experience is what I'm searching for, not theory. Such a person > > will > > > post somewhere, and by their message will demonstrate that they too > > > have experienced it. > > > > Dear Dharma Mitra, > > > > And if they demonstrate by their post that they have experienced it, > > then what will happen? > > > > Harsha > > > > > > > > > > > > community blog is at > > > > http://.net/blog/ > > > > "Love itself is the actual form of God." > > > > Sri Ramana > > > > In "Letters from Sri Ramanasramam" by Suri Nagamma > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > community blog is at > > > > http://.net/blog/ > > > > "Love itself is the actual form of God." > > > > Sri Ramana > > > > In "Letters from Sri Ramanasramam" by Suri Nagamma > > > > > > > > > > > > > > ▪  Visit your group "" on the web. > >  > > ▪  > >  > >  > > ▪  Terms of > > Service. > > > > > > > > >

Guest guest
Yes, you're right, there was a bit of sarcasm in my response, playing with our desires to validate/translate spiritual experiences to our ego selves--this contradiction a part of myself, which I should not reflect out onto others. Thank you for pointing this out. What other symptoms are there of samadhi, what other evidences, internal or external, are there that samadhi has been experienced? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ mb offers: Arjuna said: What, O Keshava, is the description of the man of steady wisdom merged in samadhi? How does the man of steady wisdom speak, how sit, how move? The Lord said: O Partha, when a man completely casts off all the desires of the mind, his Self finding satisfaction in Itself alone, then he is called a man of steady wisdom. Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 2, verses 54 and 55 When the Atman, the One without a second, is realized by means of the Nirvikalpa Samadhi, then the heart's knot of ignorance is totally destroyed. Such imaginations as "thou", "I" or "this" take place through the defects of the buddhi. But when the Paramatman, the Absolute, the One without a second, manifests Itself in Samadhi all such imaginations are dissolved for the aspirant, through the realization of the truth of Brahman. The Sannyasin, calm, self-controlled, perfectly retiring from the sense-world, forbearing, and devoting himself to the practice of Samadhi, always reflects on his own self being the Self of the whole universe. Destroying completely by this means the imaginations which are due to the gloom of ignorance, he lives blissfully as Brahman, free from action and the oscillations of the mind. Vivikechudamani of Sri Shankaracharya, verses 353-355 When all existence worships ONE as Vishnu, when existence disappears and ONE becomes Vishnu, as such is Samadhi. michael
