Guest guest
Hi! I am new to this club and have been reading the past months posts....when I came upon this quote from devi Mahatmyam that you posted: "I am all alone in the world here. Who else is there besides me?......" I feel this is very profound and would like to know where I might find more from this "author". Can you direct me? Guest guest
Reply by Devi_bhakta Hi Kathy: Welcome to the club. The quote you reference is indeed a profound one. It is also marks the first time in recorded Hindu tradition that Devi is openly identified in the holy Sanskrit language as Supreme Brahman, the ultimate divine reality. There is no one "author" of the Devi Mahatmyam. The scripture was orally passed down through the generations -- parts of it possibly for thousands of years -- before finally being committed to writing (as part of the Markandeya Purana) in around 500 CE. Today it is approachedin many ways: Tantrics extol the mantric power of the textual form; Bhaktas study and proclaim its content. Most devotees combine a bit of both approaches. There are many editions of the DM in circulation. In English, my favorite is Thomas Coburn's "Encountering the Goddess." If you look back through the posts, you'll find other editions recommended as well. Thanks for joining; please let us know if you need more information. Guest guest
reply by celestial-saraswati Hello Kathy (seektrth), Here are some other quotes that you might like to read: Quotes from Shri Anandamayi Ma: "In God is everyone and everything. Where is God not? This is why Ma is also even near though the body does not go everywhere." "Even the feeling of the absence of God is His manifestation -- so that His presence may be realized." "In whatever circumstances you may be placed, reflect thus: 'It is all right, this was necessary for me; it is His way of drawing me close to His Feet' and try to remain content. By him alone should your heart be possessed. "In the whole universe, in all states of being, in all forms is He. All names are His name, all shapes His shapes, all qualities His qualities, and all modes of existence are truly his." "The Guru actually emerges from within. When genuine search takes effect, his genuine manifestation is bound to occur, it cannot possibly be otherwise. The One, assuming Himself the shape of the Guru, of his own accord brings about his manifestion or becomes manifested." Quotes by Amma Anasuya Devi: "Only that which is all is Mother. The wise one is he who has equated himself with that." "You were all born of me, and I gave you to your mothers to bring up." "There is no need to ask who Mother is. She who is everything is Mother." "It isn't through your efforts that you see me. You see me only if I reveal myself to you." Your friend, Kathy
