Shankara was a great teacher of Advaita Vedanta who was likely born

in the village of Kaladi in Kerala, South India, in 788. Shankara

wrote a large number of Sanskrit commentaries on sacred Hindu

literatureand founded five important monasteries. The

Saundaryalahari

{Flood of beauty} a devotional poem of one hundred hymns also

written

by Adi Shankara, in praise of the Supreme Goddess.
