Shankara wrote a large number of Sanskrit commentaries on sacred Hindu literatureand founded five important monasteries. The Saundaryalahari {Flood of beauty} a devotional poem of one hundred hymns also written by Adi Shankara, in praise of the Supreme Goddess.
