there should be another dimension to this question-

are shiva and shakti equal?

otherwise the poll is incomplete.

Hi Adi ...

Actually, I had precisely the same reaction to this poll! We need more

choices! And all the various answers have their place within our

Group:

* Pure Shakta/Shaktism obviously posits a predominantly feminine

Brahman as the source of all other Gods and Goddesses.

* Tantric Shakta/Shaktism sees complete equality -- even identity --

in the Shakti-Shiva Unity.

* Many Shakta schools acknowledge this identity, but worship only

Shakti, considering Her Shiva aspect to be solely transcendent.

* Non-Shakta devotees of Devi -- the bulk of mainstream Hindus, who

worship Her within a Shaiva or Vaishnava context -- *may* see Her as

equal in esoteric theory, but view Her primarily as a consort to

Shiva, Krishna, Rama, etc., and therefore -- when you really press

them -- feel She is, for all practical purposes, ultimately second to

a male God.

I personally lean toward the Pure Shakta model; it just works for me.

But even so, I would feel that a blanket statement that "Shakti is

dominant" lacks the nuance and detail a proper and meaningful answer

to this question would require.

So I think I will sit out this particular poll!

thanx devi _bhakta!

welcome back!

as usual you amaze me with tour 'wealth' of knowledge and looking at

a all aspects of a topic!

on another note, i do not think it is appropriate to ask

Which form of Durga makes you respect and adore her more?

Slaying Mahishasura, astriding a lion, with three eyes and ten

hands.

Sitting on a tiger, with eight hands and two eyes

GODDESS DUGA HAS MANY FORMS AND MANY MANIFESTATIONS - again limiting

her to 'two' manifestations is taking a 'narrow' view of her divinity-

she is adorable in all her forms- two armed, four armed, eight

armed and sixteen armed and many more...

my 2 cents

Hi Adi ...

Sorry about that glitch you ran into on the previous post -- looks

like five copies went up at once. I deleted four of them, fair enough?

;-)

On the subject of polls, you mentioned that Pintu's old Durga poll

also left you wanting a few more choices -- naturally enough,

considering the vastness of that massively powerful and inspiring

manifestation of Devi.

But I definitely do *not* want to discourage Pintu from posting polls

-- both of his questions were terrific, and I hope they generate

useful and enlightening conversation.

I appreciate and thank him for his initiative! And I hope other

members will feel free to post polls as well. Great idea, Pintu!

oh no! pintu has taken a great initiative in starting the polls - no,

i did not mean to criticize or discourage him... on the contrary, i

was merely suggesting we must add more choices so that if one's

answer do not fall into two categories, there are other categories

they may fall into!

pintu is a great devotee of maa durga and i admired the picture of

maa jagadatri he posted in our old shakti sadhna club.

sorry, if i came across like i criticized pintu---

love

Namaste

They are one in the same. Siva is the power and Shakti is that

power put into action. Jai Maa
