However, it seems to me that the Goddess is needed in different ways by different men. For a particular man, at a particular stage in his life, she may be a calming presence. For another, she may be an energizing presence. The Kalika Purana tells how Siva went berserk after losing Shakti (in the form of Sati). On the other hand, before he found her in the first place, he was not beserk, he was calm and inactive. She brought out his passionate side.
