Guest guest
sugar/erica, i can relate to what you are saying... when i was in my teens I was a great elvis presley fan- i owned every single album of his, saw every movie in which he was the hero - and we even had our own little fan club- of course, the elvis mania was replaced by beatle mania and soon the four beatles became the object of my adoration and adulation...looking back, i don't know what it was but it was just some kind of an obsessive-compulsive disorder- but believe it or not, there is something fascinating about rock stars and movie stars- for one thing, some of them are highly successful (I whatever way you want to define success)and for some reason, in the eyes of the teenagers , they become "role models" or "heros and heroines." i don't know know about erecting temples for these celebreties but some of the sports heros are represented in the hall of fame. the point is , in both cultures, it is quite natural for people to adore and appreciate and honor those who have made a name for themselves in all walks of life. one thing i know about amitab bachan - he is known -for his charitable contributions to worthy causes...ANY TIME THERE IS A NATURAL DISASTER OR CALaMITY LIKE EARTHQUAKE ETC, these film stars organize charity shows and donate funds for relief and recovery efforts. right now, i understand michael jackson is organizing a concert to raise funds for the victims of wtc terrorist attacks.... the whole point is it is ok to admire someone ; love someone for the right reasons but as long as we do not lose perspective ! remember, "WE CAN ONLY LEARN TO LOVE BY LOVING "- MAYBE, LOVE FOR "MADONNA" MAY TURN INTO REAL LOVE FOR "MADONNA" (MOTHER MARY..) LOVE AND PEACE....
Guest guest
phil, i really liked what you had to say ! in india, anyone who teaches you something is called a guru ! believe me, a picture of my dance teacher who taught me the classical dance form known as bharatanatyam is placed with all the other deities in my pooja room- in factm, i have enormous respect for him and treat him with a lot of veneration... i can under4stand your feelings for phil collins- he deserves all the respect you extend to him... most of the rock stars , sports stars and other celebrities do cash in on their talent to raise funds for worthy causes- elizabet taylor and Michael jackson have raised a lot of funds for war on "aids" ! not so long ago, lady di herself donated a lot to philantrophy.... in our recent dance tour we raised a substantial amount of money - one half t of which was donated to india's gujarat and orissa relief efforts and the other half to the american red cross for the victims of wtc attacks. again, to reiterate, god or goddess is not some alien "entity" living in another planet- he is the "atma" dwelling in the lotus of one's own heart... you can visualize this atma as "lakshmi" , "saraswati", "durga" or "shiva" or " krishna" or any other istha devata!!!! i am pleased to note you are also a devotee of hanumanji - hanumanji is the most worshippable of all devotees- devotee of sree rama - anyone who worships hanuman is sure to find a place in vaikunta loka... well, i will leave you with these lines from a famous phil collins song I love.... It must be love, I'm feeling This must be love Oh this must be love, I'm feeling This must be love yes, love it is- be it for durga mata or your fellow being because that is what the human heart is capable of feeling - love.... small love transforms into big love, love for the universe- love for the entire creation... love, maaa
