Guest guest
folks, you have been reading the story of sati. in this story, sati's father daksha ridicules lord shiva for being an ascetic , roaming about naked and begging for alms etc... (read nora's beautiful description of this in her posts on sati). now tell me folks, why is this so? Swayam pancamukho swa putro gajanano shadanano digambara katha jivet annapurna cha va grihe five mouthed himself(Shiva), and sons - the elephant mouth (Ganesh) and the one with six mouths (Kartikeya) .. how would shiva survive if Annapurna (Parvati) was not at home ? here, devi annapurna (the presiding deity of kashi is being praised for takin care of the needs of her husband shiva (five mouths) , sons (the elephant faced ganesha with a voracious appetite) and lord kartikeya with six mouths.) such is the benevelonce of devi annapurna who caters to the needs of the universe! ********************************************************************** Swayam mahesha shasuro nagesha sakha daneshaca suto ganesha tathapi beekshatanemeva shambho baliyasi ke balam esweracha Himself the great lord, his father in law the king of mountains, his friend the king of wealth, his and his son the lord of the gaNas. even then roaming around begging for food is shiva's destiny only god's wish is powerful ... ********************************************************************** the whole point of this narration is it is lord desire to be an ascetic- if shiva chooses to be an ascetic, that is his own desire ! ascetism is he highest principle -renouncing all material desires and roaming like an 'avadhoota' (free spirited) ! om namaha shivaye! om shree annapurna devyaii namaha!
