Guest guest
what does *LALITA* mean? - lalita means the *playful one.* HER PLAY CONSISTS IN CREATION, PRESERVATION AND DISSOLUTION OF THE UNIVERSE. SHE IS ALSO MOKSHA-DHATRI- lifting the devotees from the samsara sagara- the cycle of births and deaths. what lalita sahasaranama attempts to do is create an 'experience' of an extremely adorable form of the DIVINE MOTHER and promote our relationship with this supreme being through the chanting of all her beautiful names and forms. the lalita sahasaranama is ornate and descriptive. one can notice this in the number of syllables- in the lalita sahasaranama, there are 72 sixteen syllabled description of the divine mother. for a devotee who loves romance and poetry , lalita sahasaranama gives lot of pleasure and enjoyment!(my 2 cents) the laita sahasaranama gives several abodes to the divine mother - like CINTAMANIGRHA, JALANDHARA, KADAMBA-VANA, MALAYACALA, MAHAKAILASA, VINDHYACHALA, AND THE GROUP OF FIFTY PITHAS. (51) also, in the lalita sahasaranama , the deity is very much anthropomorphic -giving detailed descriptions of the body- examples.... OM NABHYALAVALA -ROMATI -LATA-PHALA -KUCA-DVAYYAI NAMAHA SALUTATIONS O HER WHOSE *BREASTS* look like fruits on the creeper of the hair-line spreading upwards from the navel. OM laksya-roma-lata-dharata-samunneya-madhamayai namaha Salutations to her who has a waist so slender that it can only be inferred as a base for the creeper of fine hair springing from navel upwards... om anakalita-sadarshya-cibuka-sri- virajitayai namaha salUTATIONS TO HER WHOSE CHIN IS PEERLESS IN BEAUTY, IN LALITA SAHASARANAMA, THE VARIOUS EXPLOITS OF THE DEVI ARE GIVEN like the destruction of 'bhanda' etc... IN LALITA SAHASARANAMA, there are descriptions of the goddess' various names, forms. elaborate references to ritualistic worship like sr-cakra puja, the paths of samaya and kaula and all other details of the MOTHER WORSHIP. IT IS SAID that one who recites sree lalita sahasaranama is cleansed of one's sins, gets protection from enemies and effects of black magic, is cured of serious ailments. One also attains prosperity and progeny and becomes well versed in literary and poetic aptitides. in any event, whoever recites the sahasaranama (lalita ) out of pure devotion and unwavering faith, attains the knowledge of 'brahman' and moksha or liberation ( from the repeated cycles of births and deaths.) Om VAISNAVYAI NAMAHA SALUTATIONS TO HER WHO IS VAISHNAVI, THE POWER OF VISHNU based on vedanta society notes....
