Guest guest
Dear members, as you know tomorrow is the day of 'maha shivratri' when most devout hindus (shaivites) observe fasting all night and chant the glories of lord shiva and all night abisekham to linga (linga puja) is performed... this is a great day in the lives of many hindus and it is believed if one observes fasting and pray to lord shiva all night, one will go straight to the abode of shiva... (shiva loka or heaven) join me in offering this prayer to lord parama shiva, the consort of the divine mother para shakti! m:n:st:ð p:adabj:ð en:v:s:t:Ø v:c:H st:að*: PeN:t:aò kraòc:aBy:c:aüy:aø Â:Øet:rep: kT:akN:ün: ev:D:aò . t:v: Dy:an:ð b:Øe¹n:üy:n: y:Øg:l:ö m:Üet:ü ev:B:v:ð p:rg:Òn:ÎT:an:Î kóv:aü p:rm:eS:v: j:an:ð p:rm:t:H m:n:H - the mind t:ð p:adabj:ð - on your lotus feet en:v:s:t:Ø - let it dwell st:að*: PeN:t:aò - in effortless praise kraò c: - and the two hands ABy:c:aüy:aø - in worship Â:Øet:H Aep: - and the ears kT:a AakN:ün: ev:D:aò - in the practice of hearing your tale t:v: Dy:an:ð - in meditating upon you b:e¹H - the intellect n:y:n: y:Øg:l:ö - pair of eyes m:Üet:ü ev:B:v:ð - in the greatness of your image p:rg:Òn:ÎT:an:Î - other texts kóH v:a - by what means p:rm: eS:v: - Oh Paramasiva, the supremely auspicious one j:an:ð p:rö At:H - can I know beyond this ? Let my mind dwell on your lotus feet, my speech in effortless praise (of you), my hands in worshipping (you) and my ears in the practice of hearing your tale. Let my intellect meditate on you, and my eyes (dwell) on the greatness of your image. Oh Paramasiva, by what other means, beyond this, can I know other texts ? adi shankara in shivananda lahari our beloved shankara in verse 28 of soundarya lahari pays a similar tribute to devi the divine mother! (our devi bhakta loves this verse)! let every act of worship be focused on you, the divine mother!!! as you all know, adi shankara was an advaitin- outwardly a jnani, inwardly a bhakta - this great brahma jnani had no problems singing the glories of the divine mother in one breath and singing the praidses of the divine father in another breath? as our beloved colin has so eloquently pointed out in his reply to devi_bhakta , we can worship the supreme divinity as either uma or shiva - he calls this a 'sensible' conclusion- i call it the most 'sacred' pronouncement - why not? worship your ishtadevata in whatever form that appeals to you... as lord krishna says in the bhagvat gita- " in whatever form people want to worship me i appear in that form; i am in all forms and all forms are in me." so folks, next is vasant navratri on apri 13th where durga mata will be worshipped and onvce again bhaktas will be reading the devi mahatmiyam! our divine mother is Parvati and our divine fsather is parameshwera and as our adi shankara says let us salute the divine parents of the universe- PARVATI-PARAMESHWERA! AS KALIDASA SAYS parvati and parameshwer are inseperable as word and its meaning! om namaha shiva! om parvatpataye namaha! om uma-maheshweraya namha! love !!!!!!!!!!!!
