I feel so concerned about the prospect of religious violence in

Ayodhya, as well as in Jerusalem. There's a story on this on

abcnews.go.com

on.html)

that says in part:

"Religious hatred, called odium theologicum, has been with us

throughout history and while it may have subsided in some parts of the

world, it continues to haunt societies across the globe."

This is such an important spiritual issue to me. Are there any

passages in Devi liturature that address the desire for peace? Any

prayers or invocations?

Blessings,

the only verse that comes readily to mind from devi mahatmiyam is

this...

Ya devi sarva bhuteshu 'Shanti' rupena samstitha

namstasyai! namastasyai! namo namsthuthe!!!

Salutations again and again to the Devi who abides in all beings in

the form of *****peace. ******

In Chidambara Rahasiyam, Lord Shiva says to Paarvathi: "Hey Devi !

Those who recite durga Sapthasathi will be free from Dharidhram,

(impoverishment) will be free from all obstacles and will get all the

prosperities".

so one can always invoke devi's blessings for anything from world

peace to prospeity and well being of entire humanity... .

here is a chant ....

Sarva Swarupe Sarvese Sarva Sakthi Samanvithe;

Bhayebhyas Thrahino Devi Durge Devi Namosthuthey

which means

Salutations to Durga Devi, who is omnipotent and omnipresent And who

is destroyer of fear, and may we be protected by You. !!!!!!

but in upanishads there are many peace chants - here is one of my

favorites...

hariH om |

sham no mitraH | sham varuNaH |

sham no bhavatyaryamaa |sham no indro bRhaspatiH |

sham no viShNu rurukramaH |

namo bramhaNe namaste vaayo |

tvameva pratyaksham bramhaasi

tvameva pratyaksham brahma vadishyaami |

Rtam vadiShyaami | satyam vadiShyaami |

tan maamavatu | tad vaktaaram avatu |

avatu maam avatu vaktaaram |

om shaantiH shaantiH shaantiH ||

Peace chant in taittiriiya upanishads

meaning

hari om. be peace to us mitra.

be peace to us varuna. be peace to us aryamaan.

be peace to us indra and brhaspati.

may far-striding vishnu! be peace to us.

adoration to thee, o vayu.

thou, thou art the visible eternal and as the visible eternal i will

declare thee.

i will declare righteousness!

i will declare truth!

may that protect the speaker!

yea, may it protect me!

may it protect the speaker!

om peace! peace! peace!

religious fanaticism is to be abhorred at all levels... when you love

god (allah, jesus, buddha, devi or shiva or brahman or whoever) how

can there be 'room' for hatred!

as gandhiji said 'an eye for ane eye and a tooth for a tooth leaves

everyone toothless and blind' - so, the recent riots in india are to

be condemned by one and all! religious fanaticism is the worst enemy

of humanity!

when the mind is at peace,

the world too is at peace ,

NOTHING REAL NOTHING ABSENT,

not holding on to REALITY

not getting stuck in the void,

you are neither holy nor wise, just,

an ordinary fellow who has completed his work.

layman p'ang...

A TRUE SPIRITUAL WARRIOR NEVER KILLS ANYONE FOR PROTECTING HIS faith

rather he(she) saves everone by giving his/her life! FIGURE THIS ONE

OUT, PLEASE!

LOVE
