Guest guest
thanks nora for a very innovative piece on the game of chess and whether it is a gender thing? yes, it is generally regarded that men are better chess players than women ! again, this is stereotyping a'woman' and assuming that she is of lower intelligence and acumen!!! my only gut feeling is women did not take to chess so readily as men was it involved long hours of play (if both parties are experts) and women just do not have the 'time' to be involved in such 'time consuming' hobbies... i am very fond of playing chess - not an expert -but i know quite a few moves and know them well... but my son-in-law who plays 'internet' chess regularly 'beats' me everytime but i do not feel i have 'lost' because i always put up a good and valiant fight!!! i personally feel women will make great chess players... after all a women are very good in manipulating their opponents with all kinds of moves (no pun intended!!!lol), vey cunning , cool and calculating, .adventerous , not afraid of taking riks or chances, love romancing (waltzing their way around the chess borad), full of intrigues, well versed in the art of deception, practice treachery as an art and finally full of mystery!! who says women accnot beat men at chess? it is said chess originated in india and we have some expert women chess players who have world championships in recent times - aarthie subbaraman (won world championship under 18) , konen humpy (world championship under 20) , and viji subbaraman.... it is believed given time, these women will become grand masters and then they will play only against men!! what about the polgar sisters from hungary? they caused a 'sensation' in this man-dominated sport!!! i personally think more women should take to chess - it is an 'effeminate' game , in my opinion!!! sesh, if you reading this, do not get angry, dear!!!! i would rather have my man playing lawn tennis or foot ball than stare at a chess board for hours figuring out how to move his pawn or call 'checkmate'!!!! also i read this interesting piece on the web which i want to share with you all ? IS CHESS THE GAME OF THE GODDESS? Yes! "The Game is not one of war but one of Sensuality, Seduction, Fertility, Procreation, and Love. The pawns are females striving toward the ultimate goal of promotion to Queen and the possibility of union with the King; the Rook or Castle (the castle tower is an ancient symbol of the goddess, worn as a headdress by Ephesian Diana, Tyche, and the Syrian Cybele), is the protector of the width and breadth of the Chessboard, scanning for enemies while his Queen maneuvers toward unification with the other color's King. The Bishop once wore breasts and was the original female element on the chessboard; alas, she lost her breasts in the dim reaches of "His"tory, when the rise of patriarchy gave way to persecution of the Great Mother Goddess and the concept of balance in The Game was subverted into one of war. Some of that original balance was restored to The Game in the late 1400's in Spain, where the Queen was first given sweeping new powers, perhaps a reflection of Spain's own powerful Queen Isabella. " i therefore personally feel chess will soon become the domain of women players ! only they need to get involved!!!! love
