Guest guest
Being an Indian I feel I should say something. There is good and bad in all countries.I was appalled when i first came here ,specially in NY where seeing the homeless lying on the sidewalk ,drunk as a skunk and beggers asking and following for nickles and dimes.Trying to keep on the sidewalk grating under heaps of blankets is another common sight. In Washington, where one radio station announces that it is the "most powerful city in the world" the same scenario as of NY.There is a joke here in the most powerful city ....that one should have another pair of eyes on one's back so that one knows if one is being follwed !!!!Innocent peole waiting at bus stops get shot at for no reason at all.Walking on the streets of DC is at your own risk. All this in a country where the govt takes care of everyone ,even handing out welfare checks to the poor, some of whome are quite capable of working but sheer lazy to do so. I could go on and on,but as i said there is good and bad everywhere. To just point out the bad without mentioning the good is ignorance and not right. Let me also say that my countrie's culture and heritage goes back thousand's of years back, and our treasures still adorn the crown jewels.I am sure we all know why Mahmood of Ghazni plundered India 17 times !!!! Guest guest
Hi Chumki: I'm glad to see you getting more vocal around here. You always say you have not much to say, but when you speak it's always worth listening. You're 100 percent right. India has its "good and bad" -- and the USA (New York and DC being strong examples, goodness knows) has it's good and bad, too. And heaping helpings of both. *** To just point out the bad without mentioning the good is ignorance and not right. *** True. In fairness, I want to reiterate that the post was a simple travelogue by a 25-year-old kid on vacation; why give it so much weight? He's hardly the equivalent of Katherine Mayo. What he wrote is utterly superficial; it is very naive and contains no depth. By posting it (as a cute, funny diversion) without thinking it through, I gave it an unwarranted weight and authority. Wasn't my intent. It's gone now. *** Let me also say that my countrie's culture and heritage goes back thousand's of years back *** And that's why we're all here -- to hopefully tap into some of that rich store of knowledge and wisdom. Jai Bharat Maa! ;-) Aum Maatangyai Namahe
