Guest guest
adi_shakthi16 among the places of pilgrimage, the cities of kashi and kanchi are of special significance. in kanchipuram , *GODDESS KAMAKSHI* is worshipped! in kashi or benaras ,*Goddess Visalakshi* (and Mata )are worshipped. in madurai, *goddess meenakshi* is worshipped!!! NOW, AKSI MEANS ***eyes*** AND IF YOU NOTICE ALL THREE goddesses have *akshi* at the end! OUR DIVINE MOTHER'S EYES ARE VERY POWERFUL- they are full of love (kama), daya(kindness) and karuna (compassion) ! just as benaras is considered a place of holy pilgrimage, kanchipuram is also considered a HOLy kshetra ! Goddess Kaamakshi is the consort of Ekambareshwara, who is in the form of 'Ardhanareeshwara'. Kaamakshi has two meanings-one is destroyer of Maya and the other is fulfiller of wishes. That is why one who takes the darshan of Kanchi Kamakshi can observe/sense the eyes of the Mother's beautiful idol speaking. No other sculptor has carved such an idol. Mother Herself has come in the form of 'Swayambhu". Her one look will destroy 'Maya'. The River Kampa' is her court "Sabhabhavana'. The River Kampa is equal to River Ganes in its sacredness. If one takes bath in this river, not only sins get destroyed but one will get and develop 'compassion. The quality of 'daya'/'anukampa'(compassion) increases. When one takes bath in river Ganga (Ganges) they will be freed of 'kopa, thapa and papa (sufferings, anger and all sorts of sins),but for one who takes bath in Kampa, not only one gets Mother's grace and Anukampa, but also gets knowledge. Ganga took birth from the vessel (Akshayapatra) carried in the hands of Kamakshi. That is why She is Jnanaganga. That is why Sri adi Shankaracharya has established Jnanapeetam in kanchi. . Protection of one who takes refuge in goddess kamakshi is sheelam. For those who pray Her, She has taken a vratham (a vow) to protect them. That is Her 'sheelam' (swabhavam or nature). In this beautiful temple, the Devi is seated in majestic Padmasana posture, showering grace, peace and plenty on those who come for her darshan. Besides holding Pasa and Ankusa on her upper arms, Sri Kamakshi holds sugar-cane bow and floral arrows in her lower arms. ankusa(goad)- a weapon to restrain the forces of ***evil*** pasa- (noose)- representing the power of ****LOVE""""-kama sugarcane bow- stands for the ***MIND*** FLORAL ARROWS--- representing the Five tanmatras - (subtle elements) Sri Kamakshi Devi is Raja Rajeswari, (queen among queens) and an embodiment of universal power-Parasakti. she is sri vidya parameshweri! why is she called ***kamakshi**** She has 'ka' and 'ma' as her eyes. The letter 'kaa' referes to sarasvathi and 'maa' to lakshmi, infers kAmAkshI means one who has ****lakshmi and sarasvathi***** as her eyes. many great composers have sung on the divine mother kamakshi... shyama shastri and sri tyagaraja are great devotess of mother kamakshi just as muthusamy dikshitir is a great devotee of madurai meenakshi! here is a description of mother kamakshi by sri muthusamy dikshitir... 'O! devi you have shaarada and ramaa as your eyes - 'shaaradaa ramaa nayane', Your moon like face blossoms like a lotus 'saarasa chandraanane' when you look at your child who has fallen at your lotus feet 'vaarijapaade' , you shower him with all prosperity ' varade', O! Mother of such capabilities, please up lift me 'taarayamaam'. Sri MahAlakshmi is normally associated with prosperity, or bhogaa. Sri Saraswati is generally worshipped for knowledge. Real knowledge is to know one's true self, which leads to mokshA. KAmAkshI devi with both lakshmi and saraswati as her eyes showers bhogaa and moksha to her devotees. She is bhoga moksha daayinI. bukti mukti pradayini- our mother! the divine mother! the utsava murti (the murti or idol that is taken out in procession in the city) of sree kamakshi is always accompanied by the two goddessess lakshmi and saraswati! in the sree lalita sahasaranama, sree kamakshi is as ****** om tath nama: & om tvaM nama******** which means She is m'tath' and 'tvam' - the supreme truth or brahmam. O ! devi you are the supreme truth. I have done charaNagatI at your lotus feet. You are capable of bestowing bhoga and moksha having shaarada and ramaa as your eyes. You are 'varadA', who generously grants boons . O ! devi of such capabilities, taarayamaam - rescue me (from the ocean of samsaaraa). love and more love, maa p.s. gathered from various sources and presented with some changes
