Guest guest
For the past few days I have been hearing this all the time : All these are Maya .... What do we actually mean by Maya? If we know all these are Maya, can we get outselves out of it? If we know all these are Maya, why do we get outselves carried away with the Maya? So its no point of just verbalising: All these are maya, but we never make an effort to find a way of getting out of it. Just some thoughts ... not sure how many cents. How do you measure your thoughts? Can we measure thoughts. How does one decides its 2 cents or 3 cents or any cents?
Guest guest
OM Nora, fellow traveller Here's my 2 cents on Maya. Talking about Maya is like talking about the weather. As you say, everyone talks about it, but no one does anything about it. Maya is the tendency of each of us to view ourselves, the universe, and That beyond the universe, through the filters and limitations of ego, the intellect and the senses. Most of us are not so interested in moving out of Maya or stopping ourselves from being carried away with Maya because the attractions and pleasures of Maya outway the repulsions and pain of Maya. Also, most of us have only a dim, superficial awareness of both the existence of Maya and, more importantly, of the existence of the Reality outside of Maya. Lastly, most of us do not know how to free ourselves from Maya and, of those who do know how to free themselves from Maya, most of those are too undisciplined and/or fearful to follow the path to freedom. We remember pleasure but not pain. The known is more attractive than the unknown. Better the devil we know, than the heaven we know not. We are fearful and too cautious. We look outside of ourselves to validate ourselves. Such is Maya. But, our intuition of Truth and Reality always resurfaces and eventually, leads us to undertake the practices that free us from Maya. While most of us make no conscious effort to move beyond Maya, we do nevertheless move beyond Maya with each desire that we satisfy only to discover that it does not bring the depth of satisfaction that we hoped for and that the satisfaction that does arise does not last for very long. Eventually as we exhaust more and more external-directed desires, we turn to more internally-directed desires and a spiritual path is opened for us to walk. Then, we walk that path with varying levels of deliberation and discipline.
