Guest guest
devi_bhakta The Devi Mahatmyam states, "Vidyah samastah tava devi bheddah striyah samastah sakala jagaatsu" ... which means, roughly, "Devi! All types of knowledge and all women in the world are thy diverse manifestations." With that reminder in mind, it was a joy to read this news brief about a group of Hardiwar sadhus protecting Devi's human daughters: "Sadhus Rescue Haridwar's Women Students" Source: http://www.indian-express.com/ie20011224/nat15.htm HARIDWAR, INDIA, December 23: "Eve-teasing," Indian-English slang for the harassment of young women by men, became such a problem for girls attending local colleges here that their parents appealed to the naga sadhus for help. According to reports, these sadhus, who go about unclothed in all seasons, accosted suspected or observed "eve-teasers" and chased them from the area. The naga sadhus are a militant order of Hindu monks formed, in part, to protect pilgrims to this holy city. The Indian Express wrote: "Romeos, swarming the city's women colleges, got the shock of their lives when instead of pretty damsels they were accosted by the sadhus. The mendicants caught some of them and gave them a sound thrashing. Others caught moving suspiciously near colleges were also forced to stand holding their ears." Well, just thought I'd share.
