Guest guest
in india, it is always customary to offer 'puja' to mother earth before starting the construction of a house, a building like a school or a temple etc. this is called 'bhoomi puja.' in fact, you might all be familiar with the disallowal of 'bhoomi puja' by the government in the recent ram mandir controversy in ayodhya. Mother earth or bhu devi or prithivi mata is always worshipped as the divine mother for her great qualities of tolerance, patienc and forbearance. in the vedas it is said, 'Mata Bhumih Putroham Prithivyah: Earth is my mother, I am her son.' we always seek the blessings of mother earth for prosperity and abundance and pray to her that no environmental disasters occur such as earthquakes, floods and famines. here is a beautiful hymn which pays homage to mother earth (from the vedas) Earth in which lie the sea, the river and other waters, in which food and cornfields have come to be, in which lives all that breathes and that moves, May she confer on us the finest of her yield. Earth, in which the waters, common to all, moving on all sides, flow unfailingly, day and night, may she pour on us milk in many streams, and endow us with lustre. May those born of thee, O Earth, be for our welfare, free from sickness and waste. Wakeful through a long life, we shall become bearers of tribute to thee. Earth, my mother, set me securely with bliss in full accord with heaven, O wise one, uphold me in grace and splendour. please join me in offering prayers to MOTHER EARTH , the sacred space. OM BHUH!!!!
