BTW, I just caught another gorgeous, gorgeous visage of the moon in the new flick "The Scorpion King". Anyone here seen it too? No doubt, this is a B-grade action flick but its storyline had me thinking about the linked themes of prophecy, goddess and virginity. The sorcereress in this movie will lose her powers of prophecy when she loses her virginity. This borrows from the Western Norse/Asatru tradition where warlords have depended on the prophecies of virgin priestesses to guide them in their battles. The presiding Mother goddess who is the Ishta of these chaste priestesses is usually Freya. I do wonder if Hindu history recognises the link between female virginity and the gift of prophecy?
