Guest guest
Namaste DB, I read your post on the "creation of a dhyana". It seems like if you there was a new dhyana of a deity it would happen in some sort of "altered state" or deep meditation. It seems that in this state the Deity (rupa), mantra/yantra etc. would all be revelead directly and wouldnt "be created" as an act of artistic expression. Has anyone in the group ever had spontaneous experiences in meditation where the ishtadeva has appeared in a spontaneous form in meditation? ~sunelectric
Guest guest
Hi Sunelectric ... I agree with you that a new dhyana would likely emerge from "some sort of 'altered state' or deep meditation." However, that is precisely how most artists will describe the process of true artistic creation. If painting or sculpting a Deity is not an act of deep meditation and one-pointedness upon that deity, then I don't know what is! But thank you for making that point; my post required that clarification, I think. Guest guest
Supposedly when one evokes a deity with a different samkalpa then before one creates a new devata altogether for that new purpose. Just because one has the samkalpa and does divodasha doesn't mean they're the rishi though. Only if one cognizes (sees) the deity can one be said to be the rishi of it. Cognition of veda has six parts, the six vedangas, like jyotish, chhandas, kalpa, etc. One will "see" the meter of the devata, that is its flow, the time frame for the devata, including manifestation of action, its siksha tells how to pronounce, and its action upon samskara, its nirukta tells what the devata is made ofcomprised from as far as nama rupa = name and form, etc, another good question...... - devi_bhakta Tuesday, April 23, 2002 9:07 AM Re: Dhyana Slokas Namaste Kochu:You note, "If one were to merge and create a new form, then you have to realize it and manifest that Devi. Then you become the Rishi of that mantra with THAT dhyana."This seems a fascinating subject. Could you expand upon it at all? If for instance, what if a painter or sculptor were to create her/his own image of their Ishta -- be She a well-known deity such as Lakshmi, or a lesser-known dity like Dhoomavati -- using descriptions taken from several dhyanas and their own intuition? You know, rather than buying the usual calendar print or icon?Does that artist suddenly find her/himself a rishi? And what are their responsibilities to themselves and to the deity at that point? Thanks for your input -- hope other members will take a crack at this one as well!Aum Maatangyai Namahe To from this group, send an email to:shakti_sadhnaaYour use of Groups is subject to the
