Also to understand and absorb the meanings of the prayers and dhyana slokas. The next stage is symbolic worship as in yantra pujas, when the roopam or forms of Gods has been imbibed into our system, this is when you see the worshipped God/Goddess with eyes shut or eyes open, you do not need to sit infront of a photo or idol. "I see God in everything", how often have we heard that........ The next stage is realisation of the Atman, thats when we go beyond the yantra puja and mantra pujas. You realise the God within you, durga is you, krishna is you...these are all qualities at the end of the day. Its that stage that differentiates saints and gurus from devotees. Thats when people start worshipping the saint / guru because he/ she demonstrates or manifests those visible qualities ... They either don't get the Gurus or their ego is so powerful, that it does not allow him to go into the feets of such gurus. If you have to drink water from a tap, you have to bend downwards, likewise, if you want gnana from gurus, you have to do complete samarpan of ahankar, ego.
