our beloved member uday has raidsed a very interesing question in his

post...

duroyodana also had darshana of lord krishna and arjuna also had

darshsan of lord krishna - arjuna became a disciple of lord krishna

and received the great scriptural instruction srimad bhagwat gita and

duroyodhana perished in the great kurukshetra yuddha? why so? this is

because duroyodhana had 'ahamkar or false pride or arrogance... in

such a state of mind, one can never get the grace of a guru...

among the devotees of the lord also, there are rankings... Prahlad is

always considred the greatest t devotee of shri vishnu -then comes

the pandavas, uddava, gopis and smt.radharani etc... .

Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu clssifies vaishnavas into three types...

an Ordinary Vaishnava:

prabhu-kare, 'yanra mukhe suni eka-bara
krsna-nama, sei pujya,

srestha sabakara

"Who chants the holy name of Krishna just once may be considered a

Vaishnava. Such a person is worshipable and is the topmost human

being."

A Superior Vaishnava,

krsna-nama nirantara yanhara vadane
se vaisnava-srestha, bhaja

tanhara carane

"A person who is always chanting the holy name of the Krishna is a

superior Vaishnava and your duty is to serve his lotus feet."

The Topmost Vaishnava,

yanhara darsane mukhe aise krsna-nama

tanhare janiha tumi vaisnava-pradhana

"The topmost Vaishnava is he/she whose

very presence makes others chant the holy name of

Krishna. Such a Vaishnava is superior to all others!"

a vaishnav is also one who feels the pain of others -

para dukha dukhi - a vaishnav's heart is always soft

because he is always meditating on the lotus feet of lord

vishnu and he is always praying for the welfare of his

enemies - when prahlad was asked by shtri narasimhadeva

(the half-man half lion incarnation of lord vishnu) to

wish for a boon , he replied -" lord, please provide

moksha to hiranyakashyapu and his entire army."

so, udayji, there are devotees and devotees just as there are gurus

and gurus ...

love
