Guest guest
dear ompremji, thank you so much for you valuable commentary on a wide range of subjects ! it has been a great pleasure reading and re-reading all your posts - in fact, the exchanges between you and devi_bhakta are some of the best in recent times in forums ... it is interesting to note that while both of you agree to disagree on some subjects, i never see you both attacking each other or disresppecting each other- this ia a way a dialogue should be carried out - REGARDING INNER SILENCE..." from sound we go to silence.".. you know all about 'om meditation' so i need not go into that in this forum... in the inner silence, you hear the 'sound of temple bells' , 'the blowing of conch shells', 'the swarming of bees' and the 'roaring of the ocean'... this is a blissful state ! that is when the soul sings and dances with joy and in ecstasy - It is always nice to read swami sivananda's quotations- in fact, i am getting addicted to his web sites and in fact i am now reading his commentary on brahma-asutras and enjoying them here i would like to share with you shri ramana's views on the subject of inner silence... sri dakshinamurthy is known as the 'mauna guru' or the 'silent' guru. adi shankara had praised shri dakshinamurthy in a famous sloka called Sri Sankara's Dakshinamurthi Ashtakam,* (please read the english translation of these verses in our group archives- posted by me - if you like) shri ramana says ----"Sankara took it into his head to praise Dakshinamurthi, but how can one praise Mowna or silence ?** So he described srishti (creation), sthithi (preservation) and laya (dissolution) and offered salutations to Dakshinamurthi, who is the embodiment of all three. In what other way could Silence be praised?" so, one day the disciples asked shri ramana to explain the meaning of dakshinamurthy ashtakam -but our beloved shri ramana sat silent for a long while, smiling but not speaking. They then went away, feeling that Bhagavan, by his continued silence, had given them to understand that silence alone is the true meaning of the verses. so what is this true silence? "true Silence means abiding in the Self"asked one devotee .... then shri ramana repled, "Yes, of course. Without the Self how could it be Silence?" Devotee: "That is just what I am asking. Would it be silence just to refrain from speaking without abiding in the Self?" Bhagavan: "How could it be? Some people talk of keeping silence when all the while they keep on writing messages on bits of paper or on a slate. Isn't that activity of the mind just the same?" Another devotee intervened: "Then is there is no benefit at all from simply refraining from speech?" Bhagavan: "A person may refrain from speech in order to avoid the obstructions of the outer world, but he should not suppose that that is an end in itself. True Silence is really endless speech. There is no such thing as attaining it, because it is always there. All you have to do is to remove the worldly concerns that cover it over; there is no question of attaining it." The devotees sat quiet, exchanging glances, and the hall became absolutely silent.* Bhagavan, the embodiment of Dakshinamurthi, sat in the mowna-mudra, the posture of Silence, facing southwards.** That living image, his body, was radiant with the light of Atma. Silence in the presence of great maharishis like shri ramana Bhagavan had no feeling of constraint about it. It was a living, vibrant silence. It was in silence that the power of his Presence and the emanation of his Grace was most keenly felt. that is why our divine mother sree lalita tripurasundari is also called "dakshinamurthuirupini' - in her quiet presence, you could meditate on the self and reach that 'inner silence' - the egoless self... ompremji, you have asked me to clarify on certain points like 'mahamaya' etc in another post - i will do so this weekennd - my computer is being used by my daughter to write a research paper. yes, dancing is like yoga - in fact, bharatan shastra -a treatise on bharatanatyam- was composed by bharata muni based on the four vedas... all the musical compositions i dance to are all hymns to shiva, krishna , devi, muruga and ganesha etc... and the mudras or hand gestures are also the ones that are used by devotees in karanya nyasa (in devotional prayers) ---- dancing is my passion and music is my love and when you have GOD/ESS in the centre - you are IN A WORLD OF YOUR OWN!!! thanks once for your continued presence in this satsangat!!! love
Guest guest
OM Adi Shakti Devi Bhakti and myself do not attack each other or show a lack of respect of each other because (1) we recognize that we are each other, (2) we recognize that we are Brahman, (3) we recognize that all spiritual paths are essentially similar, and (4) we do not actually disagree with each other on any topic so far presented. In the event that we do find a topic on which we disagree, you are right that we will likely to agree to disagree. But we will also probably go farther and work on ourselves toward finding the errors of perception that we are making at that point. When those mututal errors have been uncovered, we will also know the common ground again and the disagreement will become agreement again. This would be an example of every day Sadhana. As Swami Sivananda said, 'Reform yourself. Let the rest of the world reform itself."
