Guest guest
Hi Everyone: Just a quick housekeeping detail. I wrote up a draft of new "Posting Guidelines" based on your answers on our poll, which draft currently appears at Message #1759 above. Nora is away for the weekend and took a copy with her to review. We'll put up a final version, probably in "Files," sometime next week. In the meantime, may I may one final suggestion? When you click "Reply" to answer the post of another member, you'll notice that their original post is contained in the reply box, like an e-mail. PLEASE delete it, or else the messages become very long, space-consuming, and hard-to-read. Thanks for your help! Guest guest
OM Deva Bhakta You made the suggestion, "In the meantime, may I may one final suggestion? When you click "Reply" to answer the post of another member, you'll notice that their original post is contained in the reply box, like an e-mail. PLEASE delete it, or else the messages become very long, space-consuming, and hard-to-read. " On the plus side, the trailing message provides a handy reference for viewers. Could we at least mention the post number to which the person is responding? Sometimes, reading posts without a reference is a little like reading in a vacuum. Without context, it can be difficult to understand the reasoning of the post. Guest guest
Thanks, OmPrem, for your input. Regarding posting messages that include a "tail" containing the last post in a thread or even the entire thread, you asked: "Could we at least mention the post number to which the person is responding? Sometimes, reading posts without a reference is a little like reading in a vacuum. Without context, it can be difficult to understand the reasoning of the post." True enough. Of course, one can always click "Up Thread" to see the message being responded to, but that too can be cumbersome depending on the circumstances. So let me propose this: If you make a conscious decision to leave the earlier message(s) in you post as an aid to clarity, that's fine. If you delete because it won't aid clarity, that's fine too. All I ask is that the person making the post *think* about the purpose tail, and not simply leave it there because it's easier than deleting it. That way, we don't use up our MB allottment on unnecessary repetition. Perhaps we could include a "suggestion" in the posting guidelines to that effect? Again, thanks for your input! You're making me *think* too, which is a big part of the value of Groups, after all! Aum Maatangyai Namahe
