Guest guest
Thanks Colin for a prompt and great response. You have told me exactly what i wanted to hear- coming from a kali bhakta like you, the response assumes added significance. our beloved colin writes..... " Kali Devi is at once dark and radiant because she is the Goddess of the depths and the heights. Black or dark blue suggest deep places -- the ocean, the earth, the tomb, the womb. Radiant light suggests the sky, the sun, the heavens. Kali is both descent and ascent, moha and vidya." Beautiful words! OUR BELOVED THAKORE sri ramakrishna SAYS -" you see her as black you are FAR AWAY from her. go near and you will find HER DEVOID OF COLOR. the water of a lake appears black from a distance. go near and take the water in your hand, and you will see that it has no color at at all. similarly, the sky looks blue from a distance. but look at the atmosphere near you, it has no color. the nearer you come to GOD, the more you will realize that HE has neither name , nor form. if you move away from the divine mother, you will find HER blue, like the grass flower. " THE POET SINGS THUS.... : "Is Kali, my Divine Mother, of a black complexion? She appears black because She is viewed from a distance; but when intimately known She is no longer so. The sky appears blue at a distance, but look at it close by and you will find that it has no colour. The water of the ocean looks blue at a distance, but when you go near and take it in your hand, you find that it is colourless." the mahanirvana tantra also explains what the colors represent .... "The aspects of the Goddess are represented by colous in accordance with her qualities; conferring liberation She is contemplated as white; as perserver of all She is seen as red, as destroyer She is tawny; conferring bliss She is rose-colored; as bestower of wealth and good fortunes She is saffron-yellow... but then black is beautiful; the queen of colors; it is a 'sexy' color; 'it is also a color of passion'; black is the color in which all colors merge; black absolves and dissolves all colors. "just as colors disappear in black . so all names and forms disappear in her"' (Mahanirvana Tantra). ALSO, black is said to represent the total absence of color, again signifying the nature of Kali as ultimate reality. This in Sanskrit is named as nirguna (beyond all quality and form). Either way, Kali's black color symbolizes her transcendence of all form. yes, our divine mother Kali with her sword of discrimination destroys our 'ego' and all the negative emotions like lust, greed, anger. desires, pride, arrogance, ignorance etc... One should worship Kali knowing she is beyond all gunas (Gunatita) and is absolute reality or PARA VIDYA! JAI MAHAKALI! JAI GURUDEVA! thanx colin! i wish you would visit us more frequently and share divine knowledge with us; your posts are a feast to the eyes; music to the soul. "the road to the heights begins in the depths" yes, pearls are always found in the bottom of the sea, is not it!! dive deep!!!! taste the nectar of kali's divinity!! love
