Guest guest
This is incorrect. I am from Britain and in Stonehenge it has always been druidic/celtic worship and really has nothing to do with shakti worship. The nearest they come is to worshipping Egyptian Gods and Goddesses and ofcourse the Greek Gods. Check out the news next solsitice or equinox when witches and wiccans from all over the country have a great field part here, its always on the international news! > I have potentially very exciting news about historic Shakti worship > in Britain, at this url - > > Avebury_uk_/ > > Please trouble to visit the message board, at this site. > > Om Matta Ki! > > KrishnaDas. Guest guest
Dear Kallikaputri, I'm afraid I must correct you. The Celtic peoples & the Druids who were their priesthood, had nothing to do with Stonehenge, which was commenced by the Neolithic people in about 3,000 bce. The Celtic presence in Britain wasn't felt until about 1,000 bce. Only in modern times has the Druid revival been associated with this monument. If you look at stone circles - & Avebury is an excellent example - you will often find a single standing stone placed in the centre. Such a stone circle is effectively a Shivaling, circle = yoni, centre stone = lingam. More. At Avebury there is a long standing-stone 'avenue' (there were once two) which snakes its way towards the great circle. Close by is a potentially sacred spring and river. These elements tend to point towards some form of serpent symbolism, which appears to me to be that of Shakti. The river is called the Kennet. Several hundred years ago it was locally called the Cunnit [=Kunnit]. There is a river in Nepal called the Kunda. I believe the name Kunda is related to Kunnit, 'd' sounds often mutate to 't'. 'Kunda' is the first element in Kundalini, serpent-Shakti energy, whilst Kundalina is the indwelling devi of a circular, sacred hearth, which brings us back to the circular yoni symbolism of the stone circle. The explanation? I believe the Neolithic peoples who came to Britain some 5,000+ years ago, not only brought the boon of agriculture with them - ultimately from southern Europe / Anatolia - but also knowledge of (related) cultures and systems of belief: one of which was to take root in Mother India and give us the Indus Valley civilisation. You can also view a tenth century 'stone circle' at Orissa in south India, which has a tall stone at its centre. Yes, this is a huge Shivaling, just like the others I have mentioned! The religion of stone circles, standing stones and female serpent energy died out in Britain, long before even the Celts arrived and where it lingered in the memory, was ultimately suppressed by the new, incomimg monotheistic system of belief, which also spread up to us from the east. But it is time to look again at the sacred Kunnit spring, Shakti river and megalithic avenues of Avebury's Shivaling stone circle complex, ceremonial landscape, and understand that the Spirit of Maa has been with us in the British Neolithic, and is only peaceably awaiting for Her worship to recommence. Jai Maa. megalith6
