Guest guest
Dear Maa, Thanks for the Tagore quote. That is so beautiful. Lalla Yogishwari of Kashimir, one of my all-time favorite saints. In a land like India filled with amazing saints, she was one of the all-time most extraordinary. She was a Shaiva and her best friend, Sayyid `Ali Hamadani, was a Sufi from Persia. Together the two of them set the best example for Hindu-Muslim relations. I don't know Kashmiri (it's kind of a hard language to learn), but I have been reading her vakhs in the original and in translation. You remember her most famous vakh, My guru gave be but one precept: >From the outer, enter thou the innermost. I have taken that as my guide, And that is why, naked, I dance. Frithjof Schuon, who was outwardly a Vedantic Sufi but inwardly Shakta, was inspired to write poems about her, like this one: Lalla Shri Lalla Yogishwari had to enter >From Maya's reign into her deepest center. "And therefore naked I began to dance"; Shri Lakshmi cast on her a blessing glance. Body and heart: give each of them its due.
