Guest guest
Hi prainbow, I read your post and just want to say that I am a non-Hindu woman who has been warmly received here. I've been here less than a week, but already feel welcome. Like you I am a student of these ideas. Unlike you I am not coming from a faith in the Goddess, just a longing for something, I know not what, a love of Nature, and an attraction to the feminine as She relates to and protects and encompasses Nature. I look forward to this journey together. Lynn
Guest guest
Hi Lynn, I'm glad to see you in the group! I have been remiss in not welcoming you myself, as I have been quietly lurking here for many many weeks. I did take note of your arrival and of our many seeming commonalities. I've been somewhat self-concious of my status as a non-Hindu, which contributes to my reticence. I want to absorb as much as possible of the essence of this Shakti tradition without influencing the balance of the interchange with my "foreign" perspective. I am here to learn from an august tradition and I am eager to learn. I do feel a strong sense of feminism in my heart and I am one of *those* Pagans. As the member of a young/reborn tradition, I sometimes remind myself that in Rome 2K years ago fledgling Christian "cults" were cited by members of the (Pagan) Senate as evidence of the corruption one finds in the cities. That makes me chuckle. I'm honored you enjoyed the prayer I sent in my email to Nora. It's not terribly original, it echoes an Irish prayer and a Navajo prayer, but it is heartfelt. I love writing prayers and rituals. I love the Goddess, I love the beauty of Nature. Again, I welcome you here, and thank you for reaching out to me so readily. I see that you seek to benefit others, such a wonderful trait in an unpredictable world. Guest guest
Hi Prainbow, I realized after I wrote that welcome that you had been here awhile. My intentions were good, as you surmised. I like what you wrote about not wanting to influence the conversation by your input, but to see where it leads without it. Makes sense to me, like the anthropologist who goes to study a tribe but influences the very behavior he is there to study. You said you work with computers. So do I. I am a Systems Analyst. So I understand about not wanting to disturb the "system" of the conversation. My daughter-in-law is one of "Those" PAGANS. I'm drawn to the original Celtic tradition, although I have a lot to learn from that as well. Thanks for your welcome. Lynn
Guest guest
Hi Lyn, Well, actually, I hope I'm not taking the attitude of an anthropologist here, that might be insulting. I'll watch for that. However, I have been reading the Devi Gita and the Devi Mahatmya, at least a little at a time and I suggest you look at the reading list. I personally felt I needed to have a book in my hands in order to work loose a thread to unravel the mystery of . There's a strong emphasis in the group on education. There's advocation for gurus, for performing certain rituals and also for being familiar with the texts and the symbolic representations of the Goddess - which are strikingly complex. Being a reader myself and not in a position to approach or properly evaluate a guru, etc, I've taken the path of reading the books and listening into the discussions here. I like the questions you've been asking. The answers have been helpful to me as well. I appreciate your input. Well, thanks for drawing me out of the shadows!
