Guest guest
"Use a difficult password w/letters, numbers, and punctuation/special characters. Make sure your account information (birthdate, zip code, and secret question/answer) are also difficult to guess" "members, please do not reveal your real name, daughter's name, husband's name and other particularls like your cat's name etc..." You can use the weirdest name, but the hackers can always get through. There is always ways and means. They even have a software for it. Its a profession. Some hackers are being paid to hack into companies account more of to test the security features of the said company. They even organize a contest and a winner will win prices etc. So like any other professions, there are the good and the bad ones. I have been in contact with several friends who use to hang around in the hackers chat room ( you see they even have a chat room ) and I was given a Url where they say will give you step by step guide of how to hack into peoples account. Did I checked it out? No because I don't think so that I want to waste my time. Its better serve to focus my attention and energy into something more meaningful and productive. I was told the best way is to download the software called Firewell. Maybe some of our members [ I know there are several because ive chatted with them ] who are in the Network, System and Database Management will be willing to come forward and advise us on this. Anyway lets us put this `nighmare' aside and refocus our attention to the group. Like I say to Devi Bhakta maybe all these are blessings in disguise. Devi Bhakta's favourite quote "Mother works in miraculous ways" Just a joke to share before we close on this topic of hacking [unless of course our IT members are willing to brief us about it ] A : so kumar what do you want to be when you grow up? K : I want to be a hacker A : Really. Okay then take this hammer and hack the walls there, another window will definitely do us some good. We need fresh air in here. Guest guest
Nora, I'm so sorry that you had to be troubled by such an incident. I do have a hint about passwords that may help someone. All that has been previously said about numbers and symbols etc is extremely valuable. The trouble is that people have trouble remembering a complicated password and you're not supposed to write it down any where. That can really be challenging! One suggestion that was given to me at work was to choose a phrase or a line familiar to you, use the initial letters of the words of that phrase and capitalize and substitute as needed. For example, I might choose the first line of a prayer "I believe in the Goddess, and in Her love for me." That leaves me with "Ibitgaihlfm" then I might exchange letters for numbers and symbols in a way that makes sense to me, perhaps I always associate g with 4 or t with $. Then I have "Ib$4gaihlfm" I've already capitalized the I, I could also capitalize the H as that would resonate for me also - or I could be random, as long as I can remember the phrase, it's not so hard to memorize something random about it. Now I have "Ib$4gaiHlfm" that's a pretty random password, yet not so hard to remember. The only thing is that sometimes there are constraints on the length of the password and that may be a little more challenging. But a good password is worth the trouble. There are programs that help hackers to break into things and they take longer to get through a password containing numbers, symbols and capitalization. They work VERY quickly through common words and names in many, many languages. I hope this is helpful. Blessed Be, Paulie
Guest guest
Nora, I'm sure I'm just being selfish, but I feel not the slightest bit of unhappiness about this. First, I, and many others, were not deleted at all. Second, I work in the computer business and although these problems can be distressing and tiresome, they are not really unusual. You are so valuable to me as moderator that I certainly hope that changing passwords will slow these villians down, and firewall protection can help you to feel safe again, such that we don't even need to contemplate a change, however temporary, in moderation. Again, this is just my opinion, but here in the United States just months ago we endured the deaths of thousands of people in planes and buildings in mere minutes due to the selfish acts of certain persons. Being removed from an e-group by some malicious huckster pales in comparison. Surely the grace that you bring in your role as moderator far far outweighs the distress that our group endured during this nasty incident! I must tell you, when I am too tired and too stressed to read the more complicated posts, I always read your posts and the reposts. They are always Goddess centered, they always bring me a renewed faith, a faith-filled curiousity and comfort. When I picture you working among the elderly in a country far removed from me, I am touched and I am grateful for the work you do. I love your cat, I love your gaming adventures, I chuckle about your husband. Although I realize that through the internet I can never really know *you* what you have shared about your life has been rich for me. You make your communication come alive. I am so sorry that someone targeted you for their mischief and mayhem. I hope someday they realize that love and faith are more gratifying and more powerful motives for action. I hope that they are able to take actions that enrich the world so that they leave in peace and in balance. May the grace of the Goddess comfort you May the grace of the Goddess guide you May the grace of the Goddess bless you May the stars twinkle brightly in your night sky May the sun rise in beauty in your morning May you feel the love and wonder of the people around you May you always feel Her love in your heart. Blessed be, Prainbow
Guest guest
Frankly, and for myself, at least, I have to say, screw hackers. I have greater worries, like having to get a second coat of paint on the kitchen. The board will come back tomorrow. Some momentum is lost but then again we can all do with getting to know Shakti again more thoroughly next time. Call me Odysseus. - thegoddessisinme2002 Tuesday, May 21, 2002 10:20 AM Re: Hacking and Hackers Thank you all and im sorry if im the cause of all the unhappiness. But this is one of the things that will happen and members will have to come to terms with it. Other groups lost half of their message board, some even lost their group overnight. We are lucky to say that whomever that is did not delete the group. It could have been worst. This only means that Mother is with us, and have stop this act of violation. Is Adi Ma suggesting that since im so vunerable that I should remove myself as moderator? As for Chumki and some of the members, Devi Bhakta and me have been sending them personal email to explain the situation and I know they have accepted it. hey ! im upset too you know, it my account being hacked !Why it happen to me only Mother can answer it. You can say about changing passwords etc, but I know the problem is more than that. I believe certain things in life we cannot control. And this is one of those. But I do have a request though, that can we put this aside and concentrate on our beloved Mother Kali.
