Guest guest
hi harsha, where have you been? i missed your 'learned' presence in this forum specially when when we had the icon of goddess 'shodasi' as a group picture- i know that is your ishtadevata - but you have left a rich legacy in your earlier contributions on this subject and i read them and reread them!`thank you so much! there is a saying in hindi which goes like this which says - JOHARI IS JOHAR KI PARAK JAANTA HAIN.. only the diamond seller recognizes a true diamond... similarly, only those who have the grace of the true guru understand that guru is GOD (devi) in a human form... when you write about sree lalita tripura mahasundari , i know you are writing from a platform of strength and direct experience and not merely quoting from any translations!!! it was ypou who explained to me beautifully the symbolism and the weapons of sree lalita tripurasundari! so even though my guru has attained samadhi, he is still helping me to grow in my sadhana in a mysterious way by sending upagurus like you, sankara kochu, ompremji , colin , devi_ bhakta. penkatali, and other valuable members of any satsangh i am part of! ONLY A LIT CANDLE CAN LIGHT ANOTHER CANDLE!!! only a self-realized soul can show you the 'self' - otherwise we will be struggling in the quagmire of 'duality' and always worry about whether shiva is superior to shakti and vice-versa!!! I learned bharatanatyam dance from a famous guru who taught both vyjayantimala and hemamalini... devi_ bhakta has described in his post how sudha raghnunathan took shelter under her guru m.l. vasantakumari and served her day and night and learned MUSIC... this is is the way it is in india- i also used to stay with my guru's family on weekends and help my guru's wife with household chores and the children and in return what did i get ? "my guru's infinite mercy " (guru kripa) and my guru is no more but his ART LIVES IN ME AND THROUGh ME IT IS BEING PASSED ON TO OTHER DESEVING STUDENTS! all dance critics who see my swift footwork and great abinaya (facial expression) ask me this question "who is your guru" - such is a guru's glory! when i read your or sankar's podsts - i want to know who your guru is - because i know your guru is speaking through you! sri vidya upasana can be learned only from a guru not by just looking at a icon of a yantra... well, this cannot be explained... just as 'love cannot be explained' - it has to be experienced... you 'do not FALL in love ' you only 'rise in love! FOR IN SPIRITUAL PATH, LOVE JUST IS!! YOU CAN FEEL THIS LOVE WHEN YOU READ PENKATALI'S POSTS ! It is like bhakthi - only ba bhakta knows the power of TRUE love and devotion - in bhakthi, the first thing is surrender - if you cannot surrender , you cannot experience bhakti - everything will be just book learning and you will be only worshipping the 'form' and the ;'name' without understanding either the' form' or the 'name!' Only when you have a 'soul' somebody can take it over- similarly, only when you have a heart. you can give it to someone ! so it is with guru bhakthi! what this expression means is THe guru permeats your whole being and directs you and guides you day to day!! the spiritual guru is not like a nursing guru - a nursing instructor at least in the u.s.a is a paid instructor who does that for a living! not so a spiritual guru? at least , not my guru! i never gave him a penny in guru dakshina.... His 'mantra' was my gift to me and the 'practicing' of his instructions my tribute to him! i have no problem with ompremji quoting sivananda, devi_ bhakta quoting woodroffe, colin quoting kalka purana, others quoting shri ramakrishna , adi shankara etc... for these are great scriptural authorities and they are time-tested and they are valuable resources... by the same token, i also enjoy eve's direct experiences and prainbow's eloquent description of her path! i love reading merrilynwiz's posts of her experiences!! that is why we come to this foruum -to learn about devi from her bhaktas... So, on this beautiful thursday, let me pay a tribute to my beloved guruji with this sloka... janmaanekashataiH sadaadarayujaa bhaktyaa samaaraadhito bhaktairvaidikalakshaNena vidhinaa santushhTa IshaH svayam.h saakshaat.h shrIgururuupmetya kR^ipayaa dR^iggocharaH san.h prabhuHtattvaM saadhu vibodhya taarayati taan.h saMsaaraduHkhaarNavaat.h .. The Supreme Lord, moved by the devout and reverential homage of his disciples in accord with scriptural prescriptions in countless former births, incarnates out of compassion in the form of a Guru; he thereby comes within the orbit of sight, freely transmits to them the wisdom concerning Ultimate Reality, and enables them to cross over the ocean of sorrowful samsara, the realm of conditioned existence. OM SATCHITANANANDA MURTHAYE NAMAHA! JAI GURUDEVA! JAI MAHAKALI! Ps -in hindusim, we regard mother, father and guru as gods .we alsoo regard guests as gods... so, folks- anyone who comes to this shrine is a guest of goddess- so let us not please insult one another--- a temple is only as good as its devotees and a group is only vibrant when there is member participation!!! so, let us bind up the wounds!!! love
