Guest guest
Namaste. I just joined this group. I live in the San Francisoc Bay Area in the U.S. I am just finishing my master's in Women's Spirituality at New College of California in San Francisco. My thesis is on how Americans change when they sing the songs in the Bhajamamritam song collection used by devotees of Mata Amritanandamayi (Ammachi), known as the hugging saint of Kerala. We studied many goddesses in our MA program. We traveled to Kerala since the two main professors in the program did their PhD research there. I love both the stories told about devi and also the artwork. I have done some sculpture inspired by the hymns in my thesis project plus traditional art. But it is not just a thing to study for me but a way to look at the world. Ammachi came up with a new term this year -- ecomeditation -- seeing god in all things. That idea is much in harmony with the idea of devi as the substance from which the world is made.
