The Fierce One

 

Other goddesses among the Mahavidyas have multiple forms, but none

has as many as Bhairavi -- nor are they as varied: For example, She

is identical not only with such fearful goddesses as Kalaratri (one

of the Nine Durgas of Navratri) and Chamunda (Durga's fiercest

epiphany in the Devi Mahatmyam), but also with Rati (the Goddess of

Sexual Pleasure; Kama's partner) and Annapurna (the household Goddess

of Plenty).
