Guest guest
Hello, I hope everyone is well. My name is Angela, my screen name is Morta. I just wanted to introduce myself, and tell everyone that I am honored to be a part of this group. I didn't look it up, I just had an invitation to join in my mail box one day. But out of all the stories of the Goddess, it is Kali's that has always had the greatest pull on me. It was She who reminded me of all that I knew when I had forgotten. In fact, the most awesome representation of Her that I have encountered is located in the Detroit Institute of Arts....a statue of Kali in the form of Chamunda. I had wanted to leave an offering, but I don't think the museum would've been too fond of that. :-) I have found some information on the Goddess Chamunda, but not much. Is there anybody else out there familiar with the Divine Feminine in this form? Of course, greetings from any of Kali's daughters would be a treat. Yours in Her love, Angela
Guest guest
Namaste Angela: Thank you for joining us; we are honored by you presence here! You write *** out of all the stories of the Goddess, it is Kali's that has always had the greatest pull on me.*** You'll definitely find plenty of company here; there are lots of Kali bhaktas among us. In fact, many would say that any devotee of the Goddess is a devotee of Kali, because all goddess forms are Her aspects. For example, you might have noticed that this week's home page Goddess is Maatangi, the "9th Mahavidya," or "Wisdom Goddess." All ten of the Mahavidyas are, by most accounts, forms of Kali. A few weeks ago, we had a discussion on Bhadrakali, another of Her most powerful forms. In the "Photos" section, you'll find plenty of space devoted to Kali, and a search through our Message Archives will undoubtedly retrieve hundreds of results. As for Chamunda, she is an awesome form of Kali -- our co-founder, TheGoddessIsInMe, is a great devotee of Chamunda and has posted several messages and a number of photos of that fearsome form. You mention a fine sculpture in the Detroit museum -- there is another wondrous example (the best I've ever seen, in fact) at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. I picked up an exhibition catalog while I was there, and will try to scan and post a photo of Her idol very soon. *** It was She who reminded me of all that I knew when I had forgotten.*** This is a beautiful phrase! ;-) It's summertime (here in the Northern Hemisphere, at least) and the posting is a little slow around here these days. So please feel free to dig around our archives and files and photos, and if you have any questions or comments, they're always welcome. Be patient, and soon I'm sure you'll find many other Kali lovers crawling out of the woodwork and sharing their thoughts and experiences. In the meantime, please accept my warmest welcome to the Group. Aum Maatangyai Namahe
Guest guest
Greetings Angela and Welcome to Shakti Sadhana "I have found some information on the Goddess Chamunda, but not much. Is there anybody else out there familiar with the Divine Feminine in this form?" I wrote about Camunda Devi sometime back [ see message 66 ]. I was intrigue by Camunda Devi then. I was obsessed with her fierceness, her `awsome' look and its just not about finding the meaning and understanding to her iconography, but to feel my self connected with Camunda Devi. She invoke this fear deep inside, and it is this fear that makes me gravitate towards her. I guess it is just something I have acquired as part of my growing up years. I love people who are fierce and strict. My own adopted mother is a very strict lady. My nursing guru is one lady not well like by many because she is a very discipline and `a no nonsense' type of person, by I love her. She became my role model even till this present day. I believe fear is a very powerful tool. If only one able to overcome and control this fear, only then one can really feel free. Like death. I grew up in my younger days, always have this fear of death, because I am being impounded with stories about life after death. Until one day I heard someone told me about Buddha who remarked : why worry about life after death, if you still unable to grasp the meaning of living and to be alive.
