Guest guest
Pranam. How is everyone? I just watched the hindi movie 'Devdas' today. And, I found out that to do Durga Puja, one should get the soil from a courtesan's house and make the moorthy of the Goddess in it. Is this true? Could someone give out the full ritual? I presume that this puja is prevalent in Bengal since the story seems to be based in Bengal. Hoping to hear from someone soon, With Love Shankaree P.S. On a worldly note, please do go and see the movie. It is beautiful. Health - Feel better, live better

As far as the rituals are concerned, the Puja begins from Sasthi ,i.e.,the sixth day of autumnal full moon with the Bodhon (invokation)ceremony. All the heavenly creatures and Shaktis are assumed to be sleeping during the period, henceforth, mother is invoked from her slumber and invited to stay within a Vilva Briksha(a Bel Tree) The rituals for the next three days,i think, would better be discussed later on. Guest guest
yes, it is true ... that soil from the threshold of a courtesan's door is used .... not quite the soil from a courtesan's house. but the reason that i am aware of is slightly different ... it is said that men leave the "good part" of their selves / soul at the threshold when they step through the door. hence the dust and soil at the threshold is is rich in "goodness" and hence auspicious. , "pintu_bh" <pintu_bh> wrote: > , shankaree ramatas <shankaree> wrote: > > Yes, it is true that soil from prostitute's house is required, both to > prepare the idol and as one of the ingredients for her grand bathing > ceremony on the day of Mahasaptami. The idea is that, even a > prostitute is a woman, and, therefore, mother Goddess resides inside > her.So even a courtesan is respectable as a woman. > > As far as the rituals are concerned, the Puja begins from > Sasthi ,i.e.,the sixth day of autumnal full moon with the Bodhon > (invokation)ceremony. All the heavenly creatures and Shaktis are > assumed to be sleeping during the period, henceforth, mother is > invoked from her slumber and invited to stay within a Vilva Briksha (a > Bel Tree) > The rituals for the next three days,i think, would better be discussed > later on. > Pranam. > > > > > > > Pranam.
