At the same time, like it did for Sister Usna, its very construction and language evokes a secondary response in this sadhaka(me). The staunchest Krishnites have always used arguments constructed with metaphors similar to those used in the above to tell other sadhakas, whose Ishta is other than Krsna, that the reason why they aren't surrendering to Krsna is because their past karma hasn't been meritorious enough for them to recognize this 'higher worship' i.e. krsna-bhakti. Read coldly and rationally, these statements of course seem ludicrous in a religion (Sanatana Dharma) which states the Oneness of God. But for the pious devotee who is struggling to put forth his/her best in sadhana, the same statements can cause him/her to question the choice he/she had made to worship another Ishta. What is more interesting is that I have never read any illustrious Shaivite or Shakta saints of yore who borrowed this particular Vaishnavistic argument/claim --- that the reason one is not choosing Shiva or Shakti is because of one's demeritorious karma. It does makes one wonder if perhaps the Vs have really cornered the market on Ultimate Truth. Any comments? Om Tat Sat
