Jaya Sri Radhey! Namaste all. Thanks Gitanjali adi shakti.

Happy preparations for the grand, joyful celebration of

Sri Krishna Janmashtami'!

'vasudeva sutaM devaM kamsa cANUra mardanam

devakI paramAnandaM kRSNaM vande jagad guruM'

I humbly prostrate to the Spiritual Master of the universe,

Lord Krishna, Who is the darling Son of King Vasudeva,

Who destroyed the evil Kamsa and Canura demon, and

Who is the Supreme Joy of Mother Devaki devi.

The Blessed Lord said:

"In this whole vast universe there is nothing higher than I.

All the worlds have their rest in Me,

as many pearls upon a string.

I am the taste of living waters

and the light of the Sun and the Moon.

I am OM, the sacred word of the Vedas,

sound in silence, heroism in men.

I am the pure fragrance that comes from the earth

and the brightness of fire I am.

I am the life of all living beings,

and the austere life of those who train their souls.

And I am from the everlasting seed of eternal life.

I am the intelligence of the intelligent.

I am the beauty of the beautiful."

- from The Bhagavad Gita, p.74, translated by Juan Mascaro, published

by Penguin Books Ltd. (1973).

Jaya Sri Radhey!

Sri Radhaa-krishnaa bhyaam Namah!

Namaste dear devotees!

These two songs written by the Rasik Saint Sura Das describe the

Bliss of Vraja-vasis during Lord Krishna's Appearance as the Son of

Nanada Maharaj and Mother Yasoda.

The Poet-Saint, in the words of John S. Hawley's translation, takes

the audience to Braj settings and glorifies the devotional ecstasy of

Lord's loving devotees.

(S 642.11-12)

"Braj has been blessed with a Headman's Son"-

this news traveled to everyone

And how they were filled with joy.

The WORTHY astrologers of Gokul,

Knowing that the MERITS OF THE FAMILY'S PAST

had established a pillar that time would not shake,

Searched out the moment ordained in the skies

and CHANTED the sounds of the VEDAS.

When the BRAJ WOMEN heard, THEY ALL CAME RUNNING,

dressed as always, in a simple way,

But They decked Themselves with Their newest clothes

and applied mascara to Their eyes.

Their forehead marks all set in place,

new blouses on Their bosoms, necklaces on Their breasts,

With braceleted hands They sat about

to decorate a golden OFFERING plate.

They raised Their blessings beneath dangling earrings

and hair that HASTE HAD LEFT HALF-BRAIDED,

As SWEAT RAINED DOWN from Their hard-working brows

like droplets sprinkling from CLOUDS.

Their faces flushed a ROSY RED,

vermillion was daubed in the parts of Their hair,

And the breeze began to LOOSEN THEIR COLORFUL,

brilliant sarees- BUT THEN, WHAT DID THEY CARE?

(S 639)

" I've HURRIED on over, for the news has come:

Yasoda's a Mother,given birth to a SON.

The courtyard THROBS WITH SONGS OF ACCLAIM,

AND WHAT AM I TO SAY AT THE SIGHT Of SUCH A SCENE?

Jewels strewn thick cover the earth;

EVERYONE'S DANCING, FROM AGED TO INFANTS;

the air is stirred in a SWIRL OF DIRT AND CURDS;

COWHERDS AND HERDSWOMEN CROWD AT THE DOOR

WITH EVEN MORE PRAISES -- WHAT AM I TO SAY?

Sur Das's LORD IS THE ONE WHO KNOWS EACH MOOD

AND GIVES THE WORLD ITS JOY-- AS NANDA'S LITTLE BOY. "

This song conveys the sense of wonder about the devotional feelings

of the poor, dumbfounded Gopi, who has no words to say but falters

with emotion.

But the Poet assures that the LORD IS OMNISCIENT (ANTARYAMI: "the One

Who knows each mood ) and HE DISPENSES THE JOY WITH EQUALLY GENERAL

EASE (gives its joy).

God here is not only LORD of the World but HE IS NANDA'S LITTLE BOY.

All glories to NAND KE ANAND (The Joy of Nanda) and

YASODA KI LAAL (Baby Boy of Yasoda) !!!

Jaya Sri Radhey!

thanks for the beautiful post on lord shri krishna on this auspicious

day !

What a lovely post! we are are dyed in the color of krishna prema !

The radiance of my beloved is of such a red hue

That all I see is crimson everywhere.

I went to see that radiance,

And I have turned crimson myself!

What is this 'redness' ? not the color 'red' for 'red' stands

for 'passion' or rajo guna.

Here 'redness' stands for the 'illumination' of the heart due to

Krishna prema!

nandalala is the 'lal' (darling) of nanda. His radiance also is red

like the 'blazing sun' - whoever has krishna prema , his heart is

full of 'redness' or illumination. A tantrik's heart region is like

that of a 'thousand blazing suns' -full of radiance and illumination.

YES, love of GOD 'dyes' your heart- ignorance is destroyed and

illumination is restored.

A kabir poem celeberates this divine ecstasy in this way...

Sahib Hai Rangrej Chunri Mori Rang Daari

syaahi Rang Churaye ke re

Diyo Majitha Rang

Dhoye Se Chhute Nahin Re

Din Din Hote Surang

Bhav Ke Kundi Neh Ke Jal Mein

Prem Rang Dayee Bore

Dukh Deh Mael Lutaye De Re

Khoob Rangi JhakJhore

Sahib Ne Chunri Rangi Re

Preetam Chatur Sujaan

Sab Kutch Un Par Vaar Dun Re

Tan Man Dhan Aur Pran

Kahat Kabir Rangrej Piyare

Mujh Par Huye Dayal

Seetal Chunri Orike Re

Bhayee Haun Magan Nihaal

The Master is an expert Dyer, He has colored my veil

Removing the dark stains, he gave that color of love

By washing which fades not but becomes brighter by the day

Using water of affection in the tub of feelings, He poured the color

of love

Rinsing away the bodily sorrows and dirt, the Expert dyed it deftly

The Master who dyed the veil is expert, beloved and great

I surrender everything to Him – Body, Mind, Wealth and Life

Says Kabir, The Beloved Dyer is benevolent on me

Covered with this cool veil, My being is blissfully fulfilled.

Kabir, in this song, points how a spiritual or inward-directed

coloring is the only reality that actually grows in its beauty and

luster with time. The veil, in this song, represents the sheaths of

perception that cover our innermost being. These sheaths, in turn,

are the mechanism of how we perceive reality. The coloring of

spirituality (given to us by the Guru) indeed permeates all these

sheaths. While normally our perceptions are covered by a myriad of

worldly colors, the spiritual coloring, on the other hand, is unique,

one-pointed and singular. That is, it replaces our dispersed

perspective by a single color of love for God. This oneness removes

confusion and cleanses the root of all maladies. And once an

unalloyed clarity emerges even this color disappears, making us the

display the glorious radiance of our inner being in all its purity

and joy.
