Guest guest
Namaste, I understand that there is an important Durga holiday/festival at this time of year. I'm not sure of the dates for this year and I've been given the impression that this is a moveable feast based on the lunar calendar. I also understand that it's a nine day celebration. I'm looking for other information on this holiday if anyone has anthing to offer I very much appreciate it. Also, it may already have been discussed here and I missed it. If that's the case please just direct me to the thread. Thank you so much for your information on this. Bright Blessings, prainbow

The Durga Puja happens in September, about the time of the full moon. It is a joyous and festive time in Bengal, as everyone is busy making statues of Durga. There is also the lighting of thousands of candles and the ceremonial washing of the statues in the Ganges. Full moon in October is Kali Puja, celebrated mostly at the huge Kali Temple in Dakshineswar, north of Calcutta. I am the owner of the kali list at . A few years ago, I wrote a long description of of the Dakshineswar Temple and the Kali Puja to share with my kali list. I shall be happy to share this with you if you wish Sister Usha ===== Sister Usha Devi Founder, Divinely Female and worshipper of the Sacred Flame that shines inside every woman New DSL Internet Access from SBC & http://sbc. Guest guest
Namaskar Prainbow: If you're really interested in sampling some Shakta music, I'd be happy to burn you a CD-R or two with an introductory selection. It might take me a week or two to get to it, but it's no problem. If interested, just send me a private e-mail and let me know where to mail'em. I'm just going thru the weekend mail (I've been away since about midday on Friday), so maybe your Durga Pooja question got answered. But if not, take a look at the Mahishasura Mardini page at our new homepage, and follow the various link. We've already compiled quite a lot of background info that you may find useful, and we are revising and adding new material all the time.
