Namaste,

I have been very taken by my recent explorations into the Goddess

Durga. So much so that it influenced my thinking around the recent

celebration.

We have a feast in honor of the Equinox and there are many customs

and myths that surround this but one in particular is of the Goddess

descending into the Underworld, where She rests through winter,

begins to stir in February and rises again with the Spring Equinox.

Because this is a Harvest Festival we give thanks at this time for

the bounty of the harvest and the gifts we've received through the

seasons.

I wrote something for the occasion which I read in our ritual and I

thought I would share it here.

*****

What if the Goddess was not just the giving Mother to whom we give

thanks for the harvest, but also our Avenger?

She descends to the dark of the underworld to battle the demons that

have arisen out of our sorrows, our pain and our bitter

disappointments. She is there to avenge our wounds and our great

injustice, not here on this earthly realm, but there in the realm of

dreams and magic. Only She can dispel the evil that arises out of

injury.

With thundering hooves She rides into the battle of our darkness,

wielding Her silver sword of moonlight and armed with the arrows of

truth and the bow of courage. It is time to give over to Her our

losses and our bitterness and let Her come to our defense.

Perhaps great chagne may be wrought on this earthly plane, but more

important still, the rends in the fabric or our existence will be

mended and the balance of our lives restored.

She is the Great Defender.

Though this is not an entirely standard view of the Goddess for this

holiday, it was well received in my circle.

I am constantly seeking Her.

Bright Blessings,

Prainbow
