Guest guest
Pranam. First of all, let me apologise if I have hurt anybody. That was not my intent. If what I have shared was wrong, then the only defense I have is that I was forming such an opinion from listening to upanyasas. The reason why I cited Draupadi as an example is because when Duryodhana came to Indraprasta for the Rajasuya sacrifice, he was wondering around the Pandava's palace. This palace had been built by Maya or as some accounts go, the divine architect Viswakarma. Many illusions were incorporated. Ponds were like glass and Duryodhana could not differentiate between pond and glass. So, he fell into a pond and got wet. Draupadi was at a balcony with Bhima. She laughed out and said in a loud voice " The father cannot see because he is blind but the son cannot see even though he has eyes." This was the turning point, this insult which caused Duryodhana to hasten his demise. By the way, I got this from an upanyasa tape called 'Draupadi Maanangkathal' which literally means the saving of Draupadi's honour by Thiruchi Mr K. Kalyanaraman. That was why I stated that example for this kural: *Disparaging words are painful even when uttered in jest. Hence, knowers of human nature are courteous even to enemies.* Once again, I ask for forgiveness if I have hurt anybody. I am a woman and I do not condone violence done to women. I do not say that Draupadi deserves the humiliation She received. Everytime I read the Mahabharata, my blood boils at that incident...... But I am glad that an elder sister saw fit to correct me. This is the thing i dislike about the net because I am not able to provide the context in which I am stating my opinion. I hope that this clears the matter. Draupadi is a model of purity and forebearance--she is a role model for the women within the culture, and if you fault the cultural role model for such a mistake, is there any hope for the average Indian women to live without fear of becoming a social scape-goat?? Why do you perpetuate such ignorance with your commentary to the scriptures? We can find fault within any being -- it is a true test to see the perfection within each living soul. Perhaps no one could avert the war, or perhaps ANYONE could have -- but please do not blame the embodiment of the Devi for such horrible acts of war.
